Journal ArticleDOI
Repression of phagocytosis by human CD33 is not conserved with mouse CD33
Abhishek Bhattacherjee,Emily Rodrigues,Jaesoo Jung,Matthew Luzentales-Simpson,Jhon R. Enterina,Danny Galleguillos,Chris D. St. Laurent,Maryam Nakhaei-Nejad,Felix F. Fuchsberger,Laura Streith,Qian Wang,Norihito Kawasaki,Shiteng Duan,Arjun Bains,James C. Paulson,Christoph Rademacher,Fabrizio Giuliani,Simonetta Sipione,Matthew S. Macauley +18 more
TL;DR: It is found that loss of mouse CD33 does not affect cargo uptake in macrophages in contrast to human CD33, which represses phagocytosis when expressed in cells or mice, highlighting the importance of studying hCD33 in AD susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methylglyoxal-induced modifications of hemoglobin: structural and functional characteristics.
TL;DR: The modified protein was found to be more effective than HbA(0) in H(2)O(2)-mediated iron release and oxidative damages involving Fenton reaction and may enhance oxidative stress and associated complications, particularly in diabetes mellitus with increased level of MG.
Journal ArticleDOI
The CD33 short isoform is a gain-of-function variant that enhances Aβ 1-42 phagocytosis in microglia
Abhishek Bhattacherjee,Jaesoo Jung,Sameera Zia,Madelene Ho,Ghazaleh Eskandari-Sedighi,Chris D. St. Laurent,Kelli A. McCord,Arjun Bains,Gaurav Sidhu,Susmita Sarkar,Jason R. Plemel,Matthew S. Macauley +11 more
TL;DR: The role of the human CD33 short isoform (hCD33m), preferentially encoded by an AD-protective CD33 allele (rs12459419T), is unknown as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanism of antiglycating properties of syringic and chlorogenic acids in in vitro glycation system
TL;DR: This paper tries to demonstrate how syringic and chlorogenic acids, two largely consumed natural products bind with BSA to prevent glycation-associated complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Iron (Fe2+)-Catalyzed Glucosamine Browning at 50 °C: Identification and Quantification of Major Flavor Compounds for Antibacterial Activity
Yuliya Hrynets,Abhishek Bhattacherjee,Maurice Ndagijimana,Daylin Johana Hincapie Martinez,Mirko Betti +4 more
TL;DR: Despite several antimicrobial compounds being produced during browning, GlcN/Fe(2+) created a synergistic environment for the fructosazine-organic acids to confer their antimicrobial activity.
