During the last decade, a big progress has been achieved in the analysis and numerical treatment of Initial Value Problems (IVPs) in Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs) and Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs). In spite of the rich variety of results available in the literature, there are still many specific problems that require special attention. Two of such, which are considered in this work, are the optimization of order of accuracy and reduction of cost of functional evaluations of Explicit Runge - Kutta (ERK) methods.

Traditionally, the maximum attainable order p of an s-stage ERK method for advancing the solution of an IVP is such that

In 1999, Goeken presented an s-stage ERK Method of order p(s)=s +1,s>2.
However, this work focuses on the design of a new approximation algorithm that reduces the cost of functional evaluations and yet increases the attainable order higher

the new scheme called Multiderivative Explicit Runge-Kutta (MERK) Methods is such that p(s) 2. The stability, convergence and implementation for the optimization of IVPs in DAEs and ODEs systems are also considered.

OpenModelica - A free open-source environment for system modeling, simulation, and teaching

This paper is a further step towards application of the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) paradigm, using standardized, graphical, and executable system modeling languages. It presents further development of Modelica graphical Modeling Language (ModelicaML), a UML Profile for Modelica, which enables an integrated modeling and simulation of system requirements and design (for systems including both hardware and software). This approach combines the power of the OMG UML/SysML standardized graphical notation for system and software modeling, and the modeling and simulation power of Modelica. It facilitates the creation of executable system-specification and analysis models that can simulate time-discrete (or eventbased) and time-continuous system behavior.

The OpenModelica Modeling, Simulation, and Development Environment

OpenModelica is a unique large-scale integrated open-source Modelicaand FMI-based modeling, simulation, optimization, model-based analysis and development environment. Moreover, the OpenModelica environment provides a number of facilities such as debugging; optimization; visualization and 3D animation; web-based model editing and simulation; scripting from Modelica, Python, Julia, and Matlab; efficient simulation and co-simulation of FMI-based models; compilation for embedded systems; ModelicaUML integration; requirement verification; and generation of parallel code for multi-core architectures. The environment is based on the equation-based object-oriented Modelica language and currently uses the MetaModelica extended version of Modelica for its model compiler implementation. This overview paper gives an up-to-date description of the capabilities of the system, short overviews of used open source symbolic and numeric algorithms with pointers to published literature, tool integration aspects, some lessons learned, and the main vision behind its development.
