Journal ArticleDOI
Ex vivo effect of estrogen and progesterone compared with dexamethasone on cell-mediated immunity of HIV-infected and uninfected subjects.
TL;DR: HCT concentrations of estrogen and progesterone downregulated ex vivo VZV CMI of HIV-infected and uninfected subjects, suggesting that induction of apoptosis may contribute to the inhibitory effect of this hormone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Methods for Cytomegalovirus Surveillance in Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients
TL;DR: CMV DNA was not detected in the plasma 1 week prior to the development of symptoms in either patient, whereas HC with WB was positive for both patients and PCR with PBLs was for one patient.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flow Cytometric Determination of Ganciclovir Susceptibilities of Human Cytomegalovirus Clinical Isolates
James McSharry,Nell S. Lurain,George L. Drusano,Alan L. Landay,Jody Manischewitz,Mostafa Nokta,Maurice R.G. O'Gorman,Howard M. Shapiro,Adriana Weinberg,Patricia Reichelderfer,Clyde S. Crumpacker +10 more
TL;DR: The flow cytometric assay for determining ganciclovir susceptibility of HCMV is quantitative, and objective, and potentially automatable, and its results are reproducible among laboratories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of Regulatory T-Cells during Pregnancy: Effect of HIV Infection and Correlations with Other Immune Parameters
TL;DR: It is concluded that Treg have different dynamics during pregnancy in HIV-infected and uninfected women, suggesting that inflammation and regulation have a common pathophysiologic origin in the context of HIV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Varicella-Zoster Virus–Specific Cellular Immune Responses to the Live Attenuated Zoster Vaccine in Young and Older Adults
Adriana Weinberg,Jennifer Canniff,Nadine Rouphael,Aneesh K. Mehta,Mark J. Mulligan,Jennifer A. Whitaker,Myron J. Levin +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that high proportions of senescent and exhausted VzV-specific T cells in the older adults contribute to their poor effector responses to a VZV challenge.
