Analysis of laser beam weldability of Inconel 738 superalloy

TL;DR: In this paper, the susceptibility of pre-weld heat treated laser beam welded IN 738 superalloy to heat affected zone (HAZ) cracking was studied, and the authors found that a pre-Weld heat treatment that produced the minimal grain boundary liquation resulted in a higher level of cracking compared to those with more intergranular liquation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improvement in Laser Weldability of INCONEL 738 Superalloy through Microstructural Modification

TL;DR: In this paper, a microstructural study of laser-beam-welded IN 738 superalloy was performed to better understand the causes of heat-affected zone (HAZ) cracking and to determine an improved approach of alleviating the weldability problem.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transgranular crack growth in the pipeline steels exposed to near-neutral pH soil aqueous solutions: Discontinuous crack growth mechanism

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify a discontinuous crack growth mechanism of pipeline steels in near neutral pH environments, which was determined from experimental simulations lasting more than 4 months, using a novel experimental setup that had incorporated the synergistic effects of realistic mechanical loading and the changes of environments affected by coating disbonding and CO 2 level in the system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface Crack Growth Behavior of Pipeline Steel Under Disbonded Coating at Free Corrosion Potential in Near-Neutral pH Soil Environments

TL;DR: In this paper, the crack growth behavior of X65 pipeline steel at free corrosion potential in near-neutral pH soil environment under a CO2 concentration gradient inside a disbonded coating was studied.
