Influence of cryogenic liquid nitrogen on petro-physical characteristics of Mancos shale: An experimental investigation
Khalil Rehman Memon,Khalil Rehman Memon,Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Muhammad Ali,Abdul Haque Tunio,Udit Surya Mohanty,Hamed Akhondzadeh,Faisal Ur Rahman Awan,Faisal Ur Rahman Awan,Stefan Iglauer,Alireza Keshavarz +11 more
TL;DR: The Mancos shale core sample investigated in the present research has been extracted from the late Cretaceous (upper cretaceous) geologic formation of USA as discussed by the authors, which is usually obtained by horizont...
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphological and petro physical estimation of Eocene tight carbonate formation cracking by cryogenic liquid nitrogen; a case study of Lower Indus basin, Pakistan
Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Abdul Majeed Shar,Muhammad Ali,Abdul Haque Tunio,Muhammad Aslam Uqailli,Udit Surya Mohanty,Hamed Akhondzadeh,Stefan Iglauer,Alireza Keshavarz +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of liquid nitrogen freezing on the fracturing of carbonate outcrops collected from the Indus basin of Pakistan is investigated, and it is shown that after exposer to LN2, super cryogenic feature of the rock causes porosity, permeability and fracture conductivity enhancement due to thermal shock without any environmental consequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of cryogenic liquid nitrogen on the morphological and petrophysical characteristics of tight gas sandstone rocks from Kirthar Fold Belt, Indus Basin, Pakistan
Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Aftab Ahmed Mahesar,Muhammad Ali,Muhammad Ali,Abdul Majeed Shar,Khalil Rehman Memon,Khalil Rehman Memon,Udit Surya Mohanty,Hamed Akhondzadeh,Abdul Haque Tunio,Stefan Iglauer,Stefan Iglauer,Alireza Keshavarz +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the liquid nitrogen (LN2) treatment remedy has been used for tight gas sandstone production, which faces enormous challenges from marginal matrix porosity and permeability in rock formations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of confining stress on permeability of tight gas sands: an experimental study
TL;DR: In this article, the authors have analyzed the features of permeability stress sensitivity in tight gas sandstone in Kirthar fold belt lower Indus Basin, Sindh, Pakistan.
Journal ArticleDOI
Could shale gas meet energy deficit: its current status and future prospects
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the shale gas potential in Pakistan and the world in terms of its distribution, production mechanism, policy implications and development trends, and proposed a sustainable way of exploitation of shale gas resources.
