Entrepreneurial education is the process of providing individuals with the ability to recognise commercial opportunities and the insight, self-esteem, knowledge and skills to act on them. It includes instruction in opportunity recognition, commercialising a concept, marshalling resources in the face of risk, and initiating a business venture. It also includes instruction in traditional business disciplines such as management, marketing, information systems and finance. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and introduction of a new program in Entrepreneurship at the University of Tasmania. Within this program the process and responsibility of learning has largely been reversed through the process of student centred learning. This method of learning represents a challenging departure from the traditional mainstream teaching practices. In considering the benefits achievable from this teaching method, this paper also considers the difficulties in transferring increased responsibility to students to manage their futures.

This paper aims to offer a wider examination of the research concerning entrepreneurship characteristics in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region via a review of recent studies relevant to this topic. Research publications concerning entrepreneurship within the MENA region evidence growing interest in this field of study, with the potential to boost and drive future economic development and growth. This focus within entrepreneurship research is because of the economic development in the region, which is becoming increasingly important for policymakers and businesses.,The author performed a systematic literature review to produce robust information about entrepreneurship in the MENA region, followed by a thematic analysis to identify key research themes within each category.,Despite the growth in entrepreneurship research in the MENA region, research on certain factors is lacking. An analysis of 271 studies published between 2009 and 2019 identifies 9 main research categories, within which 30 themes have attracted significant academic attention. Female entrepreneurship and gender, youth entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship behaviour and orientation are the three key categories influencing perspectives on entrepreneurship in the MENA region. This study highlights research gaps and provides recommendations to guide future research on the sustainable development of entrepreneurship in the MENA region.,This paper highlights trends in entrepreneurship research amongst scholars within the MENA region and suggests paths for future research efforts.

Entrepreneurship research in the Middle East and North Africa: trends, challenges, and sustainability issues

This study aims to analyze antecedents of students’ lack of proficiency (in preparing financial statements, cash flow statements, cost volume profit analysis and budgeting) and the need for an automated financial plan (AFP) for the course entrepreneurship creativity and innovation within Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in Oman.,The study used a set of four instrument items containing questionnaires to measure the variables in this study. A cross-sectional study was carried out at various universities and colleges in Oman during the year 2020, comprising 174 students from different majors. The results were analyzed using structural equation modelling-partial least squares.,The findings of the study suggest that the students in the universities and colleges should be educated and facilitated to enable them to gain more knowledge in finance/accounting through an AFP and, thus, warrants preparation of fair financial estimation for their innovative business project. A majority of students strongly support the need for implementing an AFP for their compulsory course, entrepreneurship creativity and innovation in HEIs in Oman.,This research is restricted to AFPs for the students in Oman who study the course entrepreneurship creativity and innovation. It is recommended that future study may extend to automated business plans for the students to improve their practical knowledge pertinent to the readiness of Omani students, as well as to give material transformation of internal environments in HEIs.,Unique AFP for university and college students for their compulsory course, entrepreneurship creativity and innovation provide important resources for policymakers responsible for HEIs, allowing them to improve the quality of preparing a financial plan for their innovative business ideas and new business start-ups.,There has been little discussion about the need for an AFP for the students who study the course entrepreneurship creativity and innovation. This study analyzes accounting standards as antecedents about students’ lack of proficiency towards an AFP for the course entrepreneurship creativity and innovation of universities and colleges in Oman which tries to fill this gap in the existing research. Hence, this study is considered as a novel approach that has not been broadly discussed in the earlier research.

Antecedent of lack of proficiency and the need for an automated financial plan for the course entrepreneurship creativity and innovation

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of financial management expertise on entrepreneurship development among the students of Kuwait. To address this objective, data is collected through a structural questionnaire, considering the factors of financial management qualities, influential factors/barriers for entrepreneurship activities, and key topics for the development of entrepreneurship in public sector universities. A final sample of 305 respondents is observed for both descriptive and regression analyses. It is found that factors like creativity and innovativeness, risk taking abilities, problem solving techniques, along with cash and time management are of core interest by the students while dealing with financial management capabilities. Among the influential factors/barriers, bad experience of others and educational background, government policies and fear of failure have their substantial influence on the respondent’s attitude towards entrepreneurship activities. Besides, key topics like business plans, business ideas and finance are of the core interest from respondents view for the development of entrepreneurship. Empirical findings explain that factors like producing accurate financial information, risk management, cash flows, time value of the money, budget and forecasting, working capital and overall FM has their significant influence on selected proxies of entrepreneurship in students of Kuwait. As per the limitations, this study considers the publicsector universities, limited sample from overall population of student community and ignoring the significance of entrepreneurship development cell in educational institutions. Besides, originality of the study can be viewed from the context of FM and ED integration in the region of Kuwait, which is not done yet.
