ENDF/B-VIII.0: The 8th Major Release of the Nuclear Reaction Data Library with CIELO-project Cross Sections, New Standards and Thermal Scattering Data

Adopted values for the reduced electric quadrupole transition probability, B(E2)↑, from the ground state to the first-excited 2+ state of even–even nuclides are given in Table I. Values of τ, the mean life of the 2+ state; E, the energy; and β, the quadrupole deformation parameter, are also listed there. The ratio of β to the value expected from the single-particle model is presented. The intrinsic quadrupole moment, Q0, is deduced from the B(E2)↑ value. The product E×B(E2)↑ is expressed as a percentage of the energy-weighted total and isoscalar E2 sum-rule strengths.

Table II presents the data on which Table I is based, namely the experimental results for B(E2)↑ values with quoted uncertainties. Information is also given on the quantity measured and the method used. The literature has been covered to November 2000.

The adopted B(E2)↑ values are compared in Table III with the values given by systematics and by various theoretical models. Predictions of unmeasured B(E2)↑ values are also given in Table III.

Transition probability from the ground to the first-excited 2^+ state of even-even nuclides

Optical model analyses were carried out using the coupled-channels method over various medium and heavy nuclei for incident neutrons and protons in the energy region from 1 keV to 200 MeV. Global systematics were consequently obtained for the optical potential parameters with simple functional forms. It was confirmed that coupled-channels analyses were indispensable to achieving a global description of experimental data for wide ranges of energies and mass numbers (50 ≤ A ≥ 240). It was also found that the parameter set obtained would be useful for nuclear data evaluations of fission-product nuclei for which available experimental data are scarce.

Coupled-channels Optical Model Analyses of Nucleon-induced Reactions for Medium and Heavy Nuclei in the Energy Region from 1 keV to 200 MeV

Three-dimensional quantum reactive scattering calculations have been carried out for the (D+H2)+ nonadiabatic ion–molecule collision. The calculations have been done using the time-independent close-coupling formalism with hyperspherical coordinates. The (3×3) diatomics-in-molecule potential energy surfaces have been employed. The result of the accurate quantum scattering calculations have been compared to the results of the quasiclassical trajectory surface hopping method. Two versions of the method have been used; one uses Tully’s fewest switches algorithm and the other is the trajectory surface hopping method of Tully and Preston, in which electronically nonadiabatic hopping is only allowed at the predefined crossing seams. We have found that the agreement between the quantum result and the result of Tully’s method is generally good, but the Tully and Preston method significantly underestimates the nonadiabatic transition probability.

Three-dimensional quantum reactive scattering calculations for the nonadiabatic (D+H2)+ reaction system

Three‐dimensional potential energy surfaces of H+3 in the two lowest 1A′ electronic states have been calculated by the full configuration interaction method with a [8s6p2d1f] Gaussian‐type basis set. The features of the avoided crossing of two surfaces as well as the energy minimum of the 1A′ ground state have been produced by the potential calculation at 680 different spatial geometries. These surfaces should be useful for the detailed studies of charge transfer and chemical reaction in the H+ and H2 collisions.

Ab initio potential energy surfaces for the two lowest 1A′ states of H+3

Recent progress and future plan of the JENDL project are summarized. Two special purpose files were released recently. One is Photo-nuclear Data File 2016 (JENDL/PD-2016) which contains the data of photo-nuclear reaction cross sections covering a wide area of the nuclear chart. The other one is the JENDL Activation Cross Section File for Nuclear Decommissioning 2017 (JENDL/AD-2017) which provides production cross sections of radioactive nuclei by neutrons. A special purpose file JENDL/ImPACT-2018 dedicated to transmutation of long-lived fission products will be released in 2019. Regarding the general-purpose file, we are preparing to release the next version, which would be made available by 2022 as JENDL-5. Evaluation efforts on nuclides across wide range of nuclei form light to heavy have being made. The first test version JENDL-5α 1 was created in 2018. The evaluated data will be updated on the basis of benchmark tests on reactor criticalities and neutron shieldings.
