Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the fluorinated hypofluorites and hypochlorites. The richness of the exciting field of fluorinated hypofluorites and hypochlorites is due in very large part to the imaginative work by Ruff and Lustig. Although there are many variations, the three main methods of preparing the alkali-metal fluorides for their catalytic role are thermal dehydration accompanied by mechanical powdering, heating under vacuum, and the formation of a salt, which is subsequently decomposed, for example, the reaction with hexafluoroacetone in acetonitrile. The present chapter is an effort to update the most recent accessible review on fluoroxy compounds and hypofluorites. The use of alkali-metal-fluoride-catalyzed fluorination of appropriate oxygen-containing species enhances the ease of syntheses and the yields of bisfluoroxy compounds.

Bei der Reaktion des KClO3 mit elementarem Fluor entstehen je nach der Reaktions-temperatur verschiedenartige gasformige Produkte. Bei 100° und hoherer Temperatur fuhrt die Reaktion zu freiem Chlor. Im Bereich von 40° bis 60° entsteht al Hauptprodukt Cl2O6, bei Temperaturen von −40° bis +20° das bisher unbekannte ClO3F und bei noch tieferer Temperatur mindestens ein weiterer Stoff, der Chlor, Fluor und Sauerstoff enthalt.

The laser Raman spectra of halogen nitrates were recorded and polarization measurements performed. Out of the nine expected fundamentals, eight were observed and the ninth deduced from its overtone. From the number of depolarised lines and their width, it was concluded that these molecules are of a non-planar structure of C1v symmetry.
