Journal ArticleDOI

In-flight and wireless damage detection in a UAV composite wing using fiber optic sensors and strain field pattern recognition

TL;DR: In this work, a HUMS was developed and implemented in an UAV based on 20 Fiber Bragg Gratings embedded into the composite front spar of the aircraft’s wing, a miniaturized data acquisition subsystem for gathering strain signals and a wireless transmission subsystem for remote sensing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural health monitoring on an unmanned aerial vehicle wing's beam based on fiber Bragg gratings and pattern recognition techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, a miniaturized strain acquisition and wireless transmission system is presented alongside with a novel technique for structural behavior assessment, based on the use of Fiber Bragg Gratings to measure strains and non-supervised classification techniques to recognize different operational conditions.
