Effects of Gravity on Combustion Synthesis in Heterogeneous Gasless Systems

TL;DR: The first systematic experimental investigation of combustion synthesis from elements conducted under low (10 -4 m/s 2 ) gravity conditions is reported in this paper, where several classes of gasless heterogeneous reaction systems were studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of rapid high-temperature reactions : Titanium-nitrogen system

TL;DR: In this article, the intrinsic kinetics of reactions under conditions similar to those realized during combustion synthesis of materials were determined using a computer-assisted electrothermography method, where metal wires are heated in a reactive gas atmosphere in a controlled manner by passing electric current, and when time-dependence characteristics of electric power applied to the wire are measured, the reaction kinetics can be extracted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanistic studies in combustion synthesis of NiAl–TiB2 composites: Effects of gravity

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the mechanism of structure formation of different metal matrix composites (MMCs) during combustion by using the quenching technique and found that the particles appear due to crystallization from the complex (Ni−Al−Ti-B) liquid solution formed in the combustion front.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of high-temperature reaction in titanium-nitrogen system: nonisothermal conditions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the kinetics of rapid high-temperature reaction in titanium-nitrogen (Ti-N 2 ) system, when it occurs under essentially nonisothermal conditions, using a computer-assisted electrothermography (CAE) set-up built in their laboratory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrothermography apparatus for kinetics of rapid high-temperature reactions

TL;DR: In this article, a computer assisted electrothermography setup was developed to determine the intrinsic kinetics of rapid heterogeneous reactions under conditions of high heating rate, where metal wires are heated in a reactive gas atmosphere to desired temperature in a controlled manner by passing electric current, and then by measuring time-dependence characteristics of electric power applied to the wire, the reaction kinetics is extracted.
