Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology of paraneoplastic neurological syndromes: a population-based study
Alberto Vogrig,Gian Luigi Gigli,Gian Luigi Gigli,Samantha Segatti,Elisa Corazza,Alessandro Marini,Andrea Bernardini,Francesca Valent,M. Fabris,Francesco Curcio,Francesco Curcio,Francesco Brigo,Donatella Iacono,Paolo Passadore,Michele Rana,Jérôme Honnorat,Jérôme Honnorat,Mariarosaria Valente,Mariarosaria Valente +18 more
TL;DR: This first population-based incidence study of paraneoplastic neurological syndromes found an incidence of PNS that approximates 1/100,000 person-years and a prevalence of 4/ 100,000, probably due to increased awareness and improved detection techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurologic Adverse Events of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: A Systematic Review.
Alessandro Marini,Alessandro Marini,Andrea Bernardini,Gian Luigi Gigli,Mariarosaria Valente,Mariarosaria Valente,Sergio Muñiz-Castrillo,Sergio Muñiz-Castrillo,Jérôme Honnorat,Jérôme Honnorat,Alberto Vogrig +10 more
TL;DR: The most common n-irAEs reports were myositis (136/428, 32%), Guillain-Barre syndrome and other peripheral neuropathies (94/428 and 22%), myasthenic syndromes (58/ 428, 14%), encephalitis (56/684, 13%), cranial neuropathia (31/428), 7%), meningitis (13/684), 3%), CNS demyelinating diseases (8/428 2%), and myelitis (7/684 2%) as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guillain-Barré syndrome in the COVID-19 era: just an occasional cluster?
Gian Luigi Gigli,Gian Luigi Gigli,Francesco Bax,Alessandro Marini,Gaia Pellitteri,Anna Scalise,Andrea Surcinelli,Mariarosaria Valente,Mariarosaria Valente +8 more
TL;DR: The frequency of GBS cases during the March–April months of the last three years is re-examine and the association with the descending slope of SARS-CoV-2 infection is evaluated, since the specificity and sensitivity of these tests are not yet completely assessed and the exact slope of the humoral immune response curve to this new virus is still unknown.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stress hyperglycemia is predictive of worse outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing intravenous thrombolysis
Giovanni Merlino,Carmelo Smeralda,Gian Luigi Gigli,Simone Lorenzut,Sara Pez,Andrea Surcinelli,Alessandro Marini,Mariarosaria Valente +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that stress hyperglycemia, as measured by the GAR index, is associated to worse outcome in AIS patients undergoing IVT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and neurophysiological characterization of muscular weakness in severe COVID-19.
Francesco Bax,Christian Lettieri,Alessandro Marini,Gaia Pellitteri,Andrea Surcinelli,Mariarosaria Valente,Riccardo Budai,Vincenzo Patruno,Gian Luigi Gigli +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported clinical and electroneuromyographic (ENMG) characteristics of patients affected by severe COVID-19 infection, evaluated for muscular weakness, and found that neuromuscular involvement was frequent in patients with ICU-acquired weakness and cannot be excluded by MRC sum scores above 48.
