Vibration energy harvesting in automotive suspension system: A detailed review

The exploitation of solar energy in remote areas through photovoltaic (PV) systems is an attractive solution for water pumping for irrigation systems. The design of a photovoltaic water pumping system (PVWPS) strictly depends on the estimation of the crop water requirements and land use since the water demand varies during the watering season and the solar irradiation changes time by time. It is of significance to conduct dynamic simulations in order to achieve the successful and optimal design. The aim of this paper is to develop a dynamic modelling tool for the design of a of photovoltaic water pumping system by combining the models of the water demand, the solar PV power and the pumping system, which can be used to validate the design procedure in terms of matching between water demand and water supply. Both alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) pumps and both fixed and two-axis tracking PV array were analyzed. The tool has been applied in a case study. Results show that it has the ability to do rapid design and optimization of PV water pumping system by reducing the power peak and selecting the proper devices from both technical and economic viewpoints. Among the different alternatives considered in this study, the AC fixed system represented the best cost effective solution.

Dynamic modelling of a pv pumping system with special consideration on water demand

Kinetic energy harvesting technologies for applications in land transportation: A comprehensive review

As a favorable energy storage component, lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery has been widely used in the battery energy storage systems (BESS) and electric vehicles (EV). Data driven methods estimate the battery state-of-health (SOH) with the features extracted from the measurement. However, excessive features may reduce the estimation accuracy and also increases the human labor in the lab. By proposing an optimization process with nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II), this article is able to establish a more efficient SOH estimator with support vector regression (SVR) and the short-term features from the current pulse test. NSGA-II optimizes the entire process of establishing a SOH estimator considering both the measurement cost of the feature and the estimation accuracy. A series of nondominated solutions are obtained by solving the multiobjective optimization problem, which also provides more flexibility to establish the SOH estimator at various conditions. The degradation features in this article are the knee points at the transfer instants of the voltage in the short-term current pulse test, which is fairly convenient and easy to be obtained in real applications. The proposed method is validated on the measurement from two LiFePO4/C batteries aged with the mission profile providing the primary frequency regulation (PFR) service to the grid.

Design of a hydraulic servo-actuation fed by a regenerative braking system

State Of Health (SOH) is one of the most important parameters in order to evaluate battery performances over time and it has profound impact on performances, cost and reliability of the target vehicle. SOH definition requires an accurate estimation of the actual battery energy storage capacity at low frequencies. This paper presents an improved Ampere-Count Method based on Incremental Capacity Analysis in a particular voltage range delivered by battery for SOH estimation. Proposed method is implemented using Matlab Software, and its effectiveness has been verified based on simulated data from thermo-electrical model of LiFePO4 cell with aging phenomena realized on Siemens Amesim software. Model was calibrated with data provided by manufacturer and based on real data acquired from LiFePO4 battery packs installed on a Electric Vehicle (EV).

Online State of Health Estimation of Lithium-Ion Batteries Based on Improved Ampere-Count Method

Light tricycle trucks represent a diffused kind of vehicle in urban areas in Asia, Africa and South America. Tricycle offers a cheap and agile solution for transportation of goods in crowded urban areas. Despite to its diffusion, electrification of this kind of vehicle has been neglected by large industrial groups since it involves low margin of profit with respect to upgraded vehicles. However, electrification of tricycles should be important for a world sustainable growth. A simple and cheap electrification kit is proposed in this study. Proposed solution can be used to upgrade existing vehicles with limited investments. An APE Piaggio, a widely diffused vehicle is considered as benchmark test case. Vehicle dynamics is modelled in order to optimise various aspects related to installation, and weight distribution. Particular attention is paid to optimisation of regenerative braking and its blending with mechanical one to maximise autonomy and to preserve vehicle stability.

Simulation and design of a kit for the electrification of a light tricycle truck

Electric and hybrid powertrains may represent an interesting solution for small vans and other commercial vehicles, to be used in urban environment. Thanks to the rapid development of powertrain technologies, different technical solutions can be investigated. As consequence, it is important the development of tools and methodologies to analyse and compare quickly the different variants under study. In this way, numerical simulations may represent an excellent solution to investigate relative pros and cons. In particular, in this work it is proposed a case study in which a simulation model based on Modelica language was developed, to analyse full electric and hybrid versions, having as reference an existing commercial van. The activity was performed in collaboration with the manufacturer, which provide also experimental data to validate the models.

Full electric and hybrid series vans: Cost, performance and efficiency evaluation for different powertrain layout

Many industrial vehicles are equipped with hydraulic servo systems devoted to load manipulation and other operations that are mainly performed when the vehicle is stopped. In conventional applications hydraulic servo-system are fed by a pump directly connected to the vehicle internal engine. As a consequence the internal combustion engine cannot be switched off when the vehicle is stopped causing relevant losses and additional costs in terms of pollution, noise, fuel consumption. In this work authors propose a solution in which on board hydraulic servo system are fed using electrical energy stored in accumulators that have been previously recharged using electric regenerative braking. The proposed solution has been applied to the design of a system for a truck devoted to the collection of garbage. In the paper design criteria, simulation results and preliminary experimental data are shown in order to justify feasibility of the proposed system.
