TL;DR: This work investigated whether medically indicated EEGs performed in acutely ill patients under investigation (PUIs) for COVID‐19 report epileptiform abnormalities and whether these are more prevalent in CO VID‐19 positive than negative patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Medical comorbidities in the treatment of epilepsy.
Alexis Boro,Sheryl R. Haut +1 more
TL;DR: In this review, interactions between epilepsy and some common medical conditions are examined, including a discussion of polycystic ovary syndrome, which is increased in women with epilepsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurologic Syndromes Predict Higher In-Hospital Mortality in COVID-19.
Emad N. Eskandar,David J. Altschul,Rafael De la Garza Ramos,Phillip Cezayirli,Santiago R. Unda,Joshua A. Benton,Joseph Dardick,Aureliana Toma,Nikunj K. Patel,Avinash Malaviya,David Flomenbaum,Jenelys Fernandez-Torres,Jenny Lu,Ryan Holland,Elisabetta Burchi,Richard L. Labovitz,Charles Esenwa,Mark J. Milstein,Alexis Boro,Mark F. Mehler +31 more
TL;DR: The incidence of altered mentation or stroke on admission predicts a modest but significantly higher risk of in-hospital mortality independent of disease severity, while other biomarker factors also predict mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seizure control, stress, and access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City: The patient perspective.
Jillian Rosengard,Jad Donato,Victor Ferastraoaru,Dan Zhao,Isaac Molinero,Alexis Boro,Jonathan M. Gursky,Daniel J. Correa,Aristea S. Galanopoulou,Christine Hung,Alan D. Legatt,Puja Patel,Elayna Rubens,Solomon L. Moshé,Sheryl R. Haut +14 more
TL;DR: This work aimed to determine patient‐perceived seizure control during the surge, specific variables associated with worsened seizures, the prevalence of specific barriers to care, and patient-perceived efficacy of epilepsy care delivered via telephone and live video visits during the pandemic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative sensitivity of quantitative EEG (QEEG) spectrograms for detecting seizure subtypes
TL;DR: This study suggests that different seizure types have specific patterns in the Persyst QEEG spectrograms that can be identified in the EEG, which can significantly increase the sensitivity for seizure identification.
