The present application is directed to a gas-generating apparatus and various pressure regulators or pressure-regulating valves. Hydrogen is generated within the gas-generating apparatus and is transported to a fuel cell. The transportation of a first fuel component to a second fuel component to generate of hydrogen occurs automatically depending on the pressure of a reaction chamber within the gas-generating apparatus. The pressure regulators and flow orifices are provided to regulate the hydrogen pressure and to minimize the fluctuation in pressure of the hydrogen received by the fuel cell. Connecting valves to connect the gas-generating apparatus to the fuel cell are also provided.

Hydrogen generating fuel cell cartridges

The process for producing hydrogen gas according to the present invention consists of reacting aluminum with water in the presence of sodium hydroxide as a catalyst. In one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a process for producing hydrogen gas, comprising the steps of: providing an aqueous solution containing between 0.26 M and 19 M NaOH in a vessel. The next step consists of reacting aluminum with water at the surface of the solution to generate a region of effervescence at the surface of the solution and a precipitate sinking from the region of effervescence to the bottom of the vessel. The region of effervescence is kept separated from the precipitate at the bottom the vessel, to prevent any precipitate from mixing with the aluminum therein.

Method for producing hydrogen

A self-regulating gas generator that, in response to gas demand, supplies and automatically adjusts the amount of gas (e.g., hydrogen or oxygen) catalytically generated in a chemical supply chamber from an appropriate chemical supply, such as a chemical solution, gas dissolved in liquid, or mixture. In some embodiments, the gas generator may employ a piston, rotating rod, or other element(s) to expose the chemical supply to the catalyst in controlled amounts. In another embodiment, the self-regulating gas generator uses bang-bang control, with the element(s) exposing a catalyst, contained within the chemical supply chamber, to the chemical supply in ON and OFF states according to a self-adjusting duty cycle, thereby generating and outputting the gas in an orientation-independent manner. The gas generator may be used to provide gas for various gas consuming devices, such as a fuel cell, torch, or oxygen respiratory devices.

Self-regulating gas generator and method

A gas generator chemically generates a gas from a chemical reaction between two reagents contained within a common container. The reagents are normally separated by a gas generation chamber into different regions of the container in the absence of gas generation therein. A reference pressure source of a predetermined pressure forces the two reagents into contact with each other when the pressure of gas in the gas generation chamber is less than the predetermined pressure. A valve in fluid communication with the gas generation chamber is provided to withdraw the generated gas from the chamber when OPEN. As the gas flows through the valve from the chamber the gas pressure in the chamber drops permitting more mixing of the reagents. When the chamber pressure becomes equal to or higher than the predetermined pressure applied by the reference pressure source, the reagents become separated again and gas generation ceases.

Supply of controlled, medium-pressure CO2 gas in simple, convenient disposable packaging

There is provided a renewable energy carrier system and method wherein the aluminum metal is the carrier. Aluminum metal is reacted with water in a catalytic reaction, thereby splitting the water into hydrogen, oxygen and forming a clean aluminum derivative. The hydrogen is converted into useful energy and the aluminum derivative is recycled back into aluminum metal.

UPON CONTACT OF THE LIQUID REACTANT WITH THE SOLID BODY A GAS IS GENERATED, BUT CONTACT IS DESTROYED BY EXPANSION OF THE BELLOWS. A PLURALITY OF GAS OUTLETS ARE PROVIDED WITHIN THE HOUSING SO THAT IF ONE IS SUBMERGED BY LIQUID REACTANT, THE REMAINING OUTLET WILL REMAIN EXPOSED FOR THE EDUCTION OF GAS.
