TL;DR: A new conceptual definition is proposed highlighting that EoE represents a chronic, immune/antigen-mediated disease characterized clinically by symptoms related to esophageal dysfunction and histologically by eosinophil-predominant inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guidelines on eosinophilic esophagitis: evidence-based statements and recommendations for diagnosis and management in children and adults.
Alfredo J. Lucendo,Javier Molina-Infante,Ángel Arias,Ulrike von Arnim,Albert J. Bredenoord,Christian Bussmann,Jorge Amil Dias,Mogens Bove,Jesús González-Cervera,Helen Larsson,Stephan Miehlke,Alexandra Papadopoulou,Joaquín Rodríguez-Sánchez,Alberto Ravelli,Jukka Ronkainen,Cecilio Santander,Alain M. Schoepfer,Martin Storr,Ingrid Terreehorst,Alex Straumann,Stephen Attwood +20 more
TL;DR: Evidence-based recommendations for EoE diagnosis, treatment modalities, and patients’ follow up are proposed in the guidelines, and expert opinion and best clinical practice are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of Dietary Interventions for Inducing Histologic Remission in Patients With Eosinophilic Esophagitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
TL;DR: Dietary interventions are effective in producing histologic remission in patients with EoE, and Elemental diets and SFEDs were the most effective, achieving <15 eosinophils/high-power field in 90.8% and 72.1% of patients, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Adults Is Associated With IgG4 and Not Mediated by IgE
Frederic Clayton,John C. Fang,Gerald J. Gleich,Alfredo J. Lucendo,José María Olalla,Laura A. Vinson,Amy Lowichik,Amy Lowichik,Xinjian Chen,Lyska Emerson,Kristen Cox,Molly O'Gorman,Molly O'Gorman,Kathryn A. Peterson +13 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that, in adults, eosinophilic esophagitis is IgG4-associated, and not an IgE-induced allergy, and that omalizumab did not alter symptoms of eos inophilic Esophageal mucosal biopsy samples compared with placebo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Empiric 6-food elimination diet induced and maintained prolonged remission in patients with adult eosinophilic esophagitis: a prospective study on the food cause of the disease.
Alfredo J. Lucendo,Ángel Arias,Jesús González-Cervera,Jose Luis Yagüe-Compadre,Danila Guagnozzi,Teresa Angueira,Susana Jiménez-Contreras,Sonia González-Castillo,Benito Rodríguez-Domíngez,Livia C. De Rezende,José María Tenías +10 more
TL;DR: An empiric 6-food elimination diet effectively induced remission of active adult EoE, which was maintained for up to 3 years with individually tailored, limited exclusion diets.
