Novel coumarin-buta-1,3-diene conjugated donor–acceptor systems as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1.0 M HCl: Synthesis, electrochemical, computational and SRB biological resistivity

Abstract In this study, 2-[(E)-(hexylimino)methyl] phenol (SA-Hex-SF) was synthesized by adding salicylaldehyde (SA) and n-hexylamine (Hex-NH 2 ), which was subsequently reduced by sodium borohydride to produce 2-[(hexylamino)methyl] phenol (SA-Hex-NH). Finally, the SA-Hex-NH reacted with formaldehyde to give a benzoxazine monomer (SA-Hex-BZ). Then, the monomer was thermally polymerized at 210 °C to produce the poly(SA-Hex-BZ). The chemical composition of SA-Hex-BZ was examined using FT-IR, 1 H, and 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD), respectively, were used to examine the thermal behavior, surface morphology, and crystallinity of the SA-Hex-BZ and its PBZ polymer. Mild steel (MS) was coated by poly(SA-Hex-BZ) which was quickly prepared using spray coating and thermal curing techniques (MS). Finally, the electrochemical tests were used to evaluate the poly(SA-Hex-BZ)-coating on MS as anti-corrosion capabilities. According to this study, the poly(SA-Hex-BZ) coating was hydrophobic, and corrosion efficiency reached 91.7%.

Synthesis, characterization and protective efficiency of novel polybenzoxazine precursor as an anticorrosive coating for mild steel

Aluminium corrosion in hydrochloric acid media is a huge challenge in the chemical industry; hence, creating green and more efficient inhibitors is an urgent task. Furthermore, the increasing amount of solid waste and its disposal consequences has been a major economic and environmental problem. Therefore, this study aims to determine the protective effect of coconut shell as a potential corrosion inhibitor for AA2024-T3 aluminium alloy in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in the coconut shell concentration, and the maximum inhibition efficiency reaches 97.91% at 1 g/L. The potentiodynamic polarization study shows that the inhibitor acts as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor. The adsorption of the inhibitor obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The surface characterization confirmed the presence of barrier layers covering the aluminum surface. The mechanical properties were also determined and discussed. As compared to the wide range of reported corrosion inhibitors in the literature, the coconut shell has shown to be highly effective for AA2024-T3aluminium alloy. Therefore, it can be suggested that coconut shell waste is a potential corrosion inhibitor for AA2024-T3aluminium alloy in the chemical industry. • The coconut shell exhibited excellent anti-corrosion performance on AA2024-T3 aluminium alloy in 1 M HCl solution. • The coconut shell acted as mixed–type corrosion inhibitor. • The adsorption of coconut shell on the surface of AA2024-T3 aluminium alloy follows the Langmuir isotherm. 

Agro-industrial wastes as corrosion inhibitor for 2024-T3 aluminum alloy in hydrochloric acid medium

A novel organic corrosion inhibitor, named (3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-y1) (4-((3,4-dimethoxybenzylidene) amino) phenyl) methanone (DPMM) has been effectively synthesized and characterized. FTIR has been used to diagnose DPMM's functional groups and components. Electrochemical and weight loss methods were used to assess the inhibitor efficacy for low-carbon steel in 1 M HCl. By raising the temperature and DPMM concentrations, the inhibition efficiency improved. The inhibition efficiency peaks at 95.5 % at 400 ppm of DPMM and 60 oC. The efficiency of the inhibitor was ascribed to the formation of a protective mono-layer on the steel surface. The mechanism of the adsorption process was examined using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, whereas the mechanism of inhibition was examined using theoretical quantum chemical simulations. The results revealed that the DPMM was the donor of electron, while the steel surface was an electron acceptor.

Construction of novel polybenzoxazine coating precursor exhibiting excellent anti-corrosion performance through monomer design

A novel organic corrosion inhibitor, named 3, 5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl m (4-((4-hydroxybenzylidene) amino) phenyl) methanone (DPHM) has been effectively synthesized and characterized. The diagnosis of functional groups and constituents of DPHM has been conducted by FTIR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The inhibitor efficacy for low-carbon steel in 1 M HCl was evaluated by using weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The inhibition efficiency was increased with increasing the temperature and DPHM concentrations. The inhibition efficiency approaches a maximum value of 89.5% at 400 ppm of DPHM and 60 °C. The efficiency of the inhibitor was attributed to the formation of a protective mono-layer on the steel surface. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was used to inspect the adsorption process mechanism. Theoretical quantum chemical simulations were used to investigate the mechanism of inhibition. The results revealed that the DPHM was the donor of electron, while the steel surface was an electron acceptor. Mathematical and statistical modelling were used as powerful tool for data representation. Exponential model, with 0.992 correlation coefficient, was the most accurate one.
