Resumo Varios estudos tem identificado conceitos erroneos sobre o Papiloma Virus Humano (HPV), o que pode propiciar comportamentos negligentes e de risco para a saude da populacao. O objetivo deste artigo e avaliar o conhecimento de homens e mulheres acerca do HPV na populacao do municipio de Ipatinga-MG, alem de avaliar os fatores socioeconomicos e as atitudes preventivas associadas a esse conhecimento. Estudo transversal, com 591 individuos residentes na cidade de Ipatinga, por meio de amostragem estratificada por quotas, proporcional ao numero de individuos por sexo e idade em cada uma das oito regionais administrativas da cidade. Para avaliar os fatores associados ao conhecimento sobre HPV foram utilizados os testes qui-quadrado ou t-Student e modelo de regressao logistica binaria. Menos da metade (40,1%) dos entrevistados afirmaram saber o que e HPV. Os fatores associados ao relato de conhecimento sobre HPV foram: ser do sexo feminino, ter nivel de escolaridade medio ou superior, utilizar o servico de saude particular, ter ouvido ou visto alguma campanha sobre HPV e saber da existencia da vacina contra o HPV. Existe grande deficit de conhecimento sobre o HPV e pouca qualificacao do que se sabe, favorecendo acoes com risco potencial a saude, inclusive do parceiro.

Conhecimento e percepção sobre o HPV na população com mais de 18 anos da cidade de Ipatinga, MG, Brasil

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are the main global cause of acute illness and death and represent a high socioeconomic cost. Undergraduate students are highly exposed to STDs. The research developed at UNICAMP sought to quantify and generate self-perception of knowledge(or lack thereof) about STDs, as well as evaluate the interest of the students in a course on the topic. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire sent electronically to students about to graduate at the end of 2011 and to freshmen in 2012. The questionnaire was answered by 1,448 seniors and 371 freshmen. Twenty percent of seniors and 38% of freshmen had no sexual activity. Among sexually active students, 26.9% had no regular partner and 28.2% more than two partners per year. The condom was used by 99% of students, but less than 20% used them appropriately. About 80% were unaware that condoms do not provide protection outside the barrier area; they intended to read more about STDs and learnt something about the subject. Nearly half of the students considered that a course should be offered to all undergraduates. These findings will be of use in defining strategies for prevention and the teaching tool could be used in other learning environments.

Awareness and education regarding sexually transmitted diseases among undergraduate students

O estudo objetivou reportar sobre os riscos de contagio das Doencas Sexualmente Transmissiveis (DSTs), apresentando as principais formas de transmissao, sinais e sintomas associados, tratamento e prevencao. Realizou-se uma revisao bibliografica no periodo de abril a junho de 2015, por meio das bases de dados (SciELO, PubMed, LILACS e BIREME), cartilhas e materiais do Ministerio da Saude, publicados entre 2003 a 2015 envolvendo os descritores: “doencas sexualmente transmissiveis”, “adolescente”, “sexualidade” e “vulnerabilidade em saude” no idioma ingles e portugues. A busca resultou em 63 publicacoes das quais 58 foram selecionadas a partir da leitura dos resumos dos materiais para elaboracao deste trabalho por abordarem o tema proposto. Pode se observar que a disseminacao das DSTs entre a populacao jovem e crescente, sendo necessario investir continuamente em acoes de carater educativo que visem a reducao dos fatores de riscos e possam contribuir para sua cidadania. Abordagem das doenças sexualmente transmissíveis na adolescência: revisão de literatura

Objective: To analyze the relationship between the social aspects of university students and the knowledge about the transmission of Sexually Transmitted Infections. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study carried out at a university. The participants were university students aged 18 to 29 and with active enrollment. The stratified uniform sample was adopted by sex, making a total of 384 male students and 384 female students. The instrument of data collection used was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Results: Young university students had knowledge below-average regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections, as for association with social aspects, female students, married or living together, who had children and attended the health area, had more knowledge, being statistically significant (p=<0.05). Conclusion: It is necessary to improve the health education strategies of the young university population.

Human papillomavirus knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors: A questionnaire adaptation

The objectives of this descriptive and quantitative study were to identify and assess the level of knowledge of undergraduate nursing students concerning factors related to the sexually transmitted disease, Human Papillomavirus (HPV). A questionnaire was administered to 58 undergraduate nursing students at the University of Sao Paulo at Ribeirao Preto, College of Nursing. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through the Epi Info software. Results revealed that 46.6% of the participants are sexually active; 96.3% reported safe sex with the use of condoms, though 29.6% of them do not use one regularly. Regarding the forms of transmission, 69% reported knowing them, while only 20.7% reported knowledge of HPV's signs and symptoms. Additionally, 54.3% of the adolescents reported not knowing what HPV can cause. Greater investment in health education directed to young individuals is required to promote health and prevent diseases, particularly those caused by the Human Papillomavirus. DESCRIPTORS: Knowledge.
