TL;DR: It is shown that in tobacco and Arabidopsis, glutamate receptor–like channels (GLRs) facilitate Ca2+ influx across the plasma membrane, modulate apical [Ca2+]cyt gradient, and consequently affect pollen tube growth and morphogenesis.
