Journal ArticleDOI
Retention in care under universal antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected pregnant and breastfeeding women ('Option B+') in Malawi.
Lyson Tenthani,Lyson Tenthani,Andreas D Haas,Hannock Tweya,Hannock Tweya,Andreas Jahn,Joep J van Oosterhout,Frank Chimbwandira,Zengani Chirwa,Wingston Ng’ambi,Alan Bakali,Sam Phiri,Landon Myer,Fabio Valeri,Marcel Zwahlen,Gilles Wandeler,Olivia Keiser +16 more
TL;DR: Decreasing LTF will improve the effectiveness of the Option B+ approach, and Tailored interventions, like community or family-based models of care could improve its effectiveness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retention in care during the first 3 years of antiretroviral therapy for women in Malawi's option B+ programme: an observational cohort study
Andreas D Haas,Lyson Tenthani,Malango T. Msukwa,Kali Tal,Andreas Jahn,Oliver J. Gadabu,Adrian Spoerri,Frank Chimbwandira,Joep J. van Oosterhout,Joep J. van Oosterhout,Olivia Keiser +10 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that pregnant and breastfeeding women who start ART immediately after they are diagnosed with HIV can be retained on ART through the option B+ programme, even after many have stopped breastfeeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy During and After Pregnancy: Cohort Study on Women Receiving Care in Malawi's Option B+ Program
Andreas D Haas,Malango T. Msukwa,Matthias Egger,Lyson Tenthani,Hannock Tweya,Andreas Jahn,Oliver J. Gadabu,Kali Tal,Luisa Salazar-Vizcaya,Janne Estill,Adrian Spoerri,Nozgechi Phiri,Frank Chimbwandira,Joep J. van Oosterhout,Olivia Keiser +14 more
TL;DR: One-third of women enrolled in Malawi's program to prevent human immunodeficiency virus mother-to-child-transmission adhered inadequately to antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monitoring and switching of first-line antiretroviral therapy in adult treatment cohorts in sub-Saharan Africa: collaborative analysis
Andreas D Haas,Olivia Keiser,Eric Balestre,Steve Brown,Emmanuel Bissagnene,Cleophas Chimbetete,François Dabis,Mary-Ann Davies,Christopher J. Hoffmann,Patrick Oyaro,Rosalind Parkes-Ratanshi,Steven J. Reynolds,Steven J. Reynolds,Izukanji Sikazwe,Kara Wools-Kaloustian,D Marcel Zannou,Gilles Wandeler,Matthias Egger,Matthias Egger +18 more
TL;DR: Overall, few patients switched to second-line ART and switching happened late in the absence of routine viral load monitoring, and Switching was more common and happened earlier after initiation of ART with targeted oroutine viral load testing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retention and mortality on antiretroviral therapy in sub-Saharan Africa: collaborative analyses of HIV treatment programmes.
Andreas D Haas,Elizabeth Zaniewski,Nanina Anderegg,Nathan Ford,Matthew P. Fox,Michael J. Vinikoor,François Dabis,Denis Nash,Jean d’Amour Sinayobye,Théodore Niyongabo,Aristophane Tanon,Armel Poda,Adebola Adedimeji,Andrew Edmonds,Mary-Ann Davies,Matthias Egger,Matthias Egger +16 more
TL;DR: This work describes retention on ART in sub‐Saharan Africa, first based on observed data as recorded in the clinic databases, and second adjusted for undocumented deaths and self‐transfers.
