The Model for Introduction of Gamification into E-learning in Higher Education

Background and Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the influence of Industry 4.0 on the development of the new simulation modelling paradigm, embodied by the Digital Twin concept, and examine the adoption of the new paradigm via a multiple case study involving real-life R/D cases involving academia and industry. 
Design: We introduce the Industry 4.0 paradigm, presents its background, current state of development and its influence on the development of the simulation modelling paradigm. Further, we present the multiple case study methodology and examine several research and development projects involving automated industrial process modelling, presented in recent scientific publications and conclude with lessons learned. 
Results: We present the research problems and main results from five individual cases of adoption of the new simulation modelling paradigm. Main lesson learned is that while the new simulation modelling paradigm is being adopted by big companies and SMEs, there are significant differences depending on company size in problems that they face, and the methodologies and technologies they use to overcome the issues.
Conclusion: While the examined cases indicate the acceptance of the new simulation modelling paradigm in the industrial and scientific communities, its adoption in academic environment requires close cooperation with industry partners and diversification of knowledge of researchers in order to build integrated, multi-level models of cyber-physical systems. As shown by the presented cases, lack of tools is not a problem, as the current generation of general purpose simulation modelling tools offers adequate integration options.

In recognizing knowledge as a new resource in gaining organizational competitiveness, knowledge management suggests a method in managing and applying knowledge for improving organizational performance. Much knowledge management research has focused on identifying, storing, and disseminating process related knowledge in an organized manner. Applying knowledge to decision making has a significant impact on organizational performance than solely processing transactions for knowledge management. In this research, we suggest a method of knowledge-based decision-making using system dynamics, with an emphasis to strategic concerns. The proposed method transforms individual mental models into explicit knowledge by translating partial and implicit knowledge into an integrated knowledge model. The scenario-based test of the organized knowledge model enables decision-makers to understand the structure of the target problem and identify its basic cause, which facilitates effective decision-making. This method facilitates the linkage between knowledge management initiatives and achieving strategic goals and objectives of an organization.

Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS) and System Dynamics (SD) are two popular simulation paradigms. Despite their common goal, these simulation methods are rarely combined and there has been a very low amount of joint research in these fields. However, it seems to be advantageous to combine them to create more accurate hybrid models. In this research, the possible ways to combine these methods are studied. The authors have found five different situations where it will be useful to combine these methods. All of them have already been used in earlier studies, so modelers should use them as possible interfaces to combine the methodologies. By using hybrid simulation models it is possible to create more accurate and reliable Expert Systems (ES).

Simulation Approach to Decision Assessment in Enterprises

A wearable system/device capable to track key COVID-19 symptoms is presented. Off-the-shelf hardware and software components as simple sensors, general purpose microcontroller, and gadget like mobile devices and peripheries are used to detect and monitor body temperature, heart rate, respiration rate and other vital signs, which are important to alert patients and remote medical staff about unusual symptoms correlated to COVID-19 or similar diseases. The basic idea about measuring principle, system integration, digital signal processing and networking is presented and accompanied with preliminary testing results. The principle is not just simple and low cost, based on the components we use every day, but very immune to noise and artifacts.

A Headset Like Wearable Device to Track COVID-19 Symptoms

Paper describes the development of prototype that enables monitoring of heart rate and inter beat interval for several subjects. The prototype was realized using ESP8266 hardware modules, WebSocket library, nodejs and JavaScript. System architecture is described where nodejs server acts as the signal processing and GUI code provider for clients. Signal processing algorithm was implemented in JavaScript. Application GUI is presented which can be used on mobile devices. Several important parts of the code are described which illustrate the communication between ESP8266 modules, server and clients. Developed prototype shows one of the possible realizations of group monitoring of biomedical data.

This article addresses the inﬂuence of feedback information on the group decision process supported by the application of system dynamics models. An experimental system enabling the active cooperation of decision subjects was developed, and this is user friendly as far as the visualization and transparency of the simulation results are concerned. A model of the business system was applied to the experiment with decision groups. The experiment considered the task of strategy determination with an explicitly deﬁned multicriteria function, which was deﬁned in such a way as to increase the level of experimental control. The experiment was conducted under two experimental conditions: determination of the strategy with the application of a system dynamics model without group interaction; and determination of the strategy with the application of a formal model with subject interaction supported by group feedback information. The subjects were senior university students, of whom 95 participated in the experiment. The hypothesis that the model application and group feedback information positively inﬂuence convergence of the decision process and contribute to higher criteria function values was conﬁrmed.
