The SIROCO Asteroid Deflection Demonstrator
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a space mission concept to demonstrate some of the key technologies to rendezvous with an asteroid and accurately measure its trajectory during and after a deflection maneuver.
Mitigation-relevant science with Don Quijote - a European-led mission to a near-Earth asteroid
I. Carnelli,Andres Galvez,Willy Benz,Alan W. Harris,Alan Fitzsimmons,Simon F. Green,P. Michel,Giovanni B. Valsecchi,M. Paetzold,B. Haeusler +9 more
Asteroid Investigation Mission: TheEuropean Contribution to the AIDA EU-US Cooperation
Andres Galvez,Ian Carnelli,Michel Khan,Waldemar Martens,Patrick Michel,Stephan Ulamec,Alina Hriscu +6 more
TL;DR: The Asteroid Impact Mission (AIM) as mentioned in this paper was designed to characterise the components of a binary asteroid, especially from the dynamical point of view, and the main objectives of the AIM rendezvous spacecraft are: • Determine binary asteroid orbital and rotation state • Analyse size, mass and shape of both binary asteroid components• Analyse geology and surface properties.
MASCOT2 - A small body lander to investigate the interior of 65803 Didymos' moon in the Frame of AIDA/AIM
Caroline Lange,Jens Biele,Stephan Ulamec,Christian Krause,Barbara Cozzoni,Oliver Küchemann,Simon Tardivel,Tra-Mi Ho,Jan Thimo Grundmann,Christian Ziach,Christian Grimm,Silvio Schröder,Michael Lange,Josef Reill,Alain Herique,Yves Rogez,S. Rochat,Ian Carnelli,Andres Galvez,Christian Philippe,B. Grieger,Jesus Gil-Fernandez,Michael Kueppers,Dirk Plettemeier,Jerzy Grygorczuk,Marta Tokarz,Elisabet Wejmo +26 more
TL;DR: Despite the fact that AIM funding has not been fully confirmed during the ESA Ministerial conference in 2016, MASCOT2 is an instrument package of high maturity and major interest for planetary defense and NEO science and can be considered and studied for future missions.
