Journal ArticleDOI

The flow field in turbulent round free jets

TL;DR: A critical review of both experimental and computational studies of round turbulent jets is provided, beginning with the work of Tollmien (1926). as discussed by the authors traces the history, major advances, and various stages that the research community went through over the past 85-odd years, from statistical analyses through to the use of conditional sampling, proper orthogonal decomposition and structural eduction methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reynolds number effects within the development region of a turbulent round free jet

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the Reynolds number on the near and intermediate-fields region (0,⩽,x/D, ⩽ 25) of a round free jet was investigated.

Flow control : fundamentals and practices

TL;DR: In this article, a large scale-structure identification and control in Turbulent Shear Flows is described. Butterworth et al. present a large-scale active flow control for near-wall Turbulence Control.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental measurements and computational modeling of the flow field in an idealized human oropharynx

TL;DR: The results demonstrate the need for more development and validation of CFD modeling, in particular RANS methods, in these flows, and show that, although the RANS CFD reproduces the basic features of the flow, it does not adequately capture the increased viscous effects at lower Reynolds numbers.
