International variation in surgical practices in units performing oesophagectomy for oesophageal cancer: A unit survey from the Oesophago-Gastric Anastomosis Audit (OGAA)
James R. Bundred,Sivesh K. Kamarajah,Kobby Siaw-Acheampong,Dmitri Nepogodiev,Benjamin J Jefferies,Pritam Singh,Richard A. Evans,Ewen A. Griffiths,Derek Alderson,James A. Gossage,S. McKay,I. Wijnhoven,Michael Patrick Achiam,Tita Agustin,Ali Akbar,Ahmad Al-Bahrani,Waleed Al-Khyatt,Markus Albertsmeier,Essa Alghunaim +49 more
TL;DR: This international survey highlighted variation in surgical technique and management of anastomotic leak based on case volume and country income level and further research is needed to understand the impact of this variation on patient outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotid endarterectomy for asymptomatic carotid stenosis in the very elderly
Enzo Ballotta,Antonio Toniato,Anna Da Roit,Renata Lorenzetti,Giacomo Piatto,Claudio Baracchini +5 more
TL;DR: CEA associated with BMT seems preferable to BMT alone in preventing the risk of ipsilateral ischemic events, without translating into a longer survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sleep disturbances and quality of life in postoperative management after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer
Marco Scarpa,Eleonora Pinto,Luca Maria Saadeh,Matteo Parotto,Anna Da Roit,Elisa Pizzolato,Rita Alfieri,Matteo Cagol,E Saraceni,F Baratto,Carlo Castoro +10 more
TL;DR: Sleep disturbance at diagnosis can successfully predict patients who can develop sleep disturbance during the postoperative period and the use of hypnotics is neither completely successful nor lacking in possible consequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Durability of eversion carotid endarterectomy.
Enzo Ballotta,Antonio Toniato,Giuseppe Da Giau,Renata Lorenzetti,Anna Da Roit,Claudio Baracchini +5 more
TL;DR: The results of this study show that eversion CEA can be performed in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with an extremely low perioperative stroke/death risk and a negligible incidence of late restenosis/occlusion, thus assuring a persistently good protection against the risk of cerebral ischemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gastric tube cancer after esophagectomy for cancer: a systematic review
TL;DR: The development of GTC should be taken into consideration during the extended follow-up of patients undergoing esophagectomy for cancer and total gastrectomy plus lymphadenectomy should be considered the preferred treatment modality in operable patients with locally invasive tumor, when endoscopy is contraindicated.
