TL;DR: This international survey highlighted variation in surgical technique and management of anastomotic leak based on case volume and country income level and further research is needed to understand the impact of this variation on patient outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Study protocol for a multicenter prospective cohort study on esophagogastric anastomoses and anastomotic leak (the Oesophago-Gastric Anastomosis Audit/OGAA)
Richard P T Evans,P Singh,D Nepogodiev,James R. Bundred,Sivesh K. Kamarajah,Benjamin J Jefferies,K Siaw-Acheampong,Kasun Wanigasooriya,S. McKay,I. Mohamed,Tony Whitehouse,D Alderson,James A. Gossage,R. van Hillegersberg,R S Vohra,Ewen A. Griffiths +15 more
TL;DR: A 12-month international multicentre prospective audit started in April 2018 and is coordinated by a team from the West Midlands Research Collaborative to determine the effect on the anastomotic leak rate of esophagectomy practice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular calcification does not predict anastomotic leak or conduit necrosis following oesophagectomy
Benjamin J Jefferies,Emily Evans,James R. Bundred,James Hodson,John Whiting,Colm Forde,Ewen A. Griffiths +6 more
TL;DR: Calcification scoring was not significantly associated with Anastomotic Leak or CN in the study, therefore should not be used to identify patients who are high risk for these complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Referral and Management of Pretibial Lacerations in Two District General Hospitals
TL;DR: In this article , the authors describe the typical demographic and injury factors of individuals presenting to two district general hospitals, as well as their subsequent management and referral, and show that the majority of patients presenting with pretibial lacerations have minor wounds that can be effectively managed in the emergency department, but those with considerably more injuries should be provided an early referral to specialist services, where they would ideally receive early surgery and comprehensive follow-up.
