Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pediatric obesity: Consensus position statement of the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology and the Italian Society of Pediatrics

TL;DR: The main novelties deriving from the Italian experience lie in the definition, screening of the cardiometabolic and hepatic risk factors and the endorsement of a staged approach to treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Membrane-bound O-Acyltransferase7 rs641738 Variant in Pediatric Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

TL;DR: This work first demonstrated in childhood obesity the role of the MBOAT7 rs641738 variant on serum ALT and the combined effect ofThe MBOat7, PNPLA3, and TM6SF2 variants on NAFLD risk and provided the first pediatric association of this polymorphism with indirect markers of liver fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and eGFR levels could be linked by the PNPLA3 I148M polymorphism in children with obesity.

TL;DR: PNPLA3 I148M polymorphism has an effect on modulation of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in nonobese nondiabetic adults and in children with histologically confirmed nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel Association Between a Nonsynonymous Variant (R270H) of the G-Protein–Coupled Receptor 120 and Liver Injury in Children and Adolescents With Obesity

TL;DR: Stratifying the patients with the GPR120 270H variant on the basis of their PNPLA3 polymorphism, a significant interaction effect on ALT levels is demonstrated, suggesting a driving effect of the PN PLA3 148M allele on liver injury in children with obesity carrying this variant.
