Journal ArticleDOI
Infection Risks Among Patients With Multiple Sclerosis Treated With Fingolimod, Natalizumab, Rituximab, and Injectable Therapies.
Gustavo Luna,Peter Alping,Joachim Burman,Katharina Fink,Anna Fogdell-Hahn,Martin Gunnarsson,Jan Hillert,Annette Langer-Gould,Jan Lycke,Petra Nilsson,Jonatan Salzer,Anders Svenningsson,Magnus Vrethem,Tomas Olsson,Fredrik Piehl,Fredrik Piehl,Thomas Frisell +16 more
TL;DR: Patients with MS are at a generally increased risk of infections, and this differs by treatment; among newer treatments, off-label use of rituximab was associated with the highest rate of serious infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple sclerosis: a modifying influence of HLA class I genes in an HLA class II associated autoimmune disease.
TL;DR: These findings are the first to identify a major modulating effect of HLA class I alleles on the susceptibility to a human autoimmune disease; a phenomenon that has previously only been observed in animal models.
Journal ArticleDOI
HLA-DR Predicts the Prognosis in Scandinavian Patients with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis
TL;DR: HLA class II typing is a valuable tool in predicting the outcome of the disease in Scandinavian sarcoidosis patients and enabled a subgrouping into two categories with significantly different clinical courses, even in patients with clinical manifestations normally associated with good prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of human herpesvirus-6 in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy surgical brain resections.
D. Donati,Nahid Akhyani,Anna Fogdell-Hahn,Claudio Cermelli,Claudio Cermelli,Riccardo Cassiani-Ingoni,Alexander O. Vortmeyer,John D. Heiss,P. Cogen,William D. Gaillard,William D. Gaillard,Susumu Sato,William H. Theodore,Steve Jacobson +13 more
TL;DR: HHV-6B is present in brain specimens from a subset of patients with MTLE and localized to astrocytes in the absence of inflammation and warrants further investigation into the possible role of HHV- 6 in the development of MTLE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Human Herpesvirus-6B with Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
Julie Fotheringham,Donatella Donati,Nahid Akhyani,Anna Fogdell-Hahn,Anna Fogdell-Hahn,Alexander O. Vortmeyer,John D. Heiss,Elizabeth Williams,Steven L. Weinstein,Derek Andrew Bruce,William D. Gaillard,William D. Gaillard,Susumu Sato,William H. Theodore,Steven Jacobson +14 more
TL;DR: Overall, HHV-6B is detected in 15 of 24 patients with mesial temporal sclerosis/MTLE, in contrast to zero of 14 with other syndromes, which suggests a potential etiology and pathogenic mechanism for MTLE.
