Guidelines for coccolith and calcareous nannofossil terminology

TL;DR: The descriptive terminology applicable to coccoliths and other calcareous nannofosils is reviewed and revised in this article, with a listing of about 400 terms with brief explanations and explanatory figures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Holococcolithophorids from the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean

TL;DR: Eleven species and eight types in open nomenclature are new to science, one species is revised and new combinations are proposed for eight species, while new ranks are given to three holococcolith stages of species that may also bear heterococcoliths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution and malformation of extant calcareous nannoplankton in the Indonesian Seas

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors determined the calcareous nannoplankton distribution from surface and subsurface water samples, and floating and moored sediment trap samples, taken during the Indonesian-Dutch Snellius-II Expedition in July 1984-May 1985 from the Banda Sea and adjacent seas, an area with seasonally changing upwelling and downwelling conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Five new species of the coccolithophorid genus Alisphaera (Haptophyta), with notes on their distribution, coccolith structure and taxonomy

TL;DR: The proximal flange and the central area of Alisphaera are equivalent to the outer and inner tube cycles of Canistrolithus, which implies that these genera should be separated from the family Syracosphaeraceae.
