Journal ArticleDOI

Familial, Social, and Individual Factors Contributing to Risk for Adolescent Substance Use

TL;DR: Data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveal high numbers of adolescent substance use in the United States, with adolescents particularly susceptible to involvement in substance use.
Journal ArticleDOI

Late Pregnancy Exposures to Disinfection By-products and Growth-Related Birth Outcomes

TL;DR: There is evidence of associations between exposure to specific HAAs and term low birth weight as well as intrauterine growth retardation and for exposure to the five regulated HAAs (HAA5), and a critical window of exposure with respect to fetal development during weeks 33–40 for the effects of dibromoacetic acid and during weeks 37–40 of dichloroacetics acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Indoor air pollution, cookstove quality, and housing characteristics in two Honduran communities.

TL;DR: Results indicate that using type of stove alone as a proxy for exposure may lead to exposure misclassification and potentially biased exposure and health effects relationships, and utilizing stove quality and housing characteristics that influence ventilation may provide a viable alternative to the more time- and cost-intensive pollutant assessments for larger-scale studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resveratrol Reduces Radiation-Induced Chromosome Aberration Frequencies in Mouse Bone Marrow Cells

TL;DR: This study is the first to demonstrate that resveratrol has radioprotective effects in vivo, and support the use of resver atrol as a radioprotsector with the potential for widespread application.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of improved cookstoves on indoor air pollution and adverse health effects among Honduran women.

TL;DR: There was no evidence of associations between cookstove type or air quality measures with lung function or CRP, and women using traditional stoves reported symptoms more frequently than those using improved stoves.
