A location system for commercial wireless telecommunication infrastructures (CMRRs). The system is an end-to-end solution having one or more location systems ( 42 ) for outputting requested locations of commercially available hand sets or mobile stations (not shown) based on, e.g. AMPS, NAMPS, CDMA or TDMA communication standards, for processing both local mobile station location requests and more global mobile station location requests via, e.g., Internet communication between a distributed network of location systems. The system uses a plurality of mobile station locating technologies including those based on: two-way TOA and TDOA; home base stations and distributed antenna provisioning. Further, the system can be modularly configured for use in location signaling environments ranging from urban, dense urban, suburban, rural, mountain to low traffic or isolated roadways. Accordingly, the system is useful for 911 emergency calls, tracking, routing, people and animal location including applications for confinement to and from certain areas.

Location of a mobile station using a plurality of commercial wireless infrastructures

A radio frequency identification device comprises an integrated circuit including a receiver, a transmitter, and a microprocessor. The receiver and transmitter together define an active transponder. The integrated circuit is preferably a monolithic single die integrated circuit including the receiver, the transmitter, and the microprocessor. Because the device includes an active transponder, instead of a transponder which relies on magnetic coupling for power, the device has a much greater range.

A location system is disclosed for commercial wireless telecommunication infrastructures. The system is an end-to-end solution having one or more location centers for outputting requested locations of commercially available handsets or mobile stations (MS) based on, e.g., CDMA, AMPS, NAMPS or TDMA communication standards, for processing both local MS location requests and more global MS location requests via, e.g., Internet communication between a distributed network of location centers. The system uses a plurality of MS locating technologies including those based on: (1) two-way TOA and TDOA; (2) pattern recognition; (3) distributed antenna provisioning; (5) GPS signals, (6) angle of arrival, (7) super resolution enhancements, and (8) supplemental information from various types of very low cost non-infrastructure base stations for communicating via a typical commercial wireless base station infrastructure or a public telephone switching network. Accordingly, the traditional MS location difficulties, such as multipath, poor location accuracy and poor coverage are alleviated via such technologies in combination with strategies for: (a) automatically adapting and calibrating system performance according to environmental and geographical changes; (b) automatically capturing location signal data for continual enhancement of a self-maintaining historical data base retaining predictive location signal data; (c) evaluating MS locations according to both heuristics and constraints related to, e.g., terrain, MS velocity and MS path extrapolation from tracking and (d) adjusting likely MS locations adaptively and statistically so that the system becomes progressively more comprehensive and accurate. Further, the system can be modularly configured for use in location signing environments ranging from urban, dense urban, suburban, rural, mountain to low traffic or isolated roadways. Accordingly, the system is useful for 911 emergency calls, tracking, routing, people and animal location including applications for confinement to and exclusion from certain areas.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for receiving data from a giver at a first time, the data being used to identify a merchant at which a gift from the giver to a recipient is redeemable. The system presents a group of merchants associated with the data to the giver, each merchant of the group of merchants offering a promotion in connection with the gift. The system receives from the giver a selection of a chosen merchant from the group of merchants, the chosen merchant having an associated promotion. The system then generates a policy comprising the gift, the chosen merchant, and the associated promotion such that upon receiving an indication of a triggering event caused by the recipient, the system can apply the gift and the associated promotion according to the policy.

System and method for processing financial transactions

An inventory control system and method that tracks inventories of items with RFID tags, includes a reader unit and an intelligent station that tracks RFID tags to determine item information of items to be inventoried. The reader unit transmits and receives RF signals. The intelligent station includes a first RF antenna connected to the reader unit by a first transmission cable through a first switch, and one or more additional RF antennae connected to the reader unit by the same first transmission cable through additional switches. An inventory control processing unit receives item information from the intelligent stations to update inventory information regarding the items to be inventoried.

In accordance with the present invention, a radio communications system is disclosed that can determine the location of an RFID Tag. The radio communication system includes at least one Interrogator for generating and transmitting a modulated radio signal to one or more Tags. The Interrogator is at a known location, and is in motion with respect to the Tag at a known velocity. One or more Tags of the system receive and demodulate the modulated radio signal, whichcontains a first information signal which specifies which Tag or Tags should respond using Backscatter Modulator means. The Tag generates a subcarrier signal, and backscatter modulates the reflection of the radio signal using the subcarrier signal, thereby forming a reflected signal. The Interrogator receives and demodulates the reflected signal. The Interrogator then determines the Tag's relative direction from the location and velocity of the Interrogator, and from the Doppler shift of the subcarrier signal. More than one of such measurements allow the location of the Tag to be determined.

Modulated backscatter location system

In accordance with the present invention, a duplex radio communication system comprises an Interrogator which generates a radio signal to at least one remote Tag. The remote Tag receives the radio signal. The Tag then generates a subcarrier signal, and using Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK), modulates an information signal onto the subcarrier. A Backscatter Modulator, using this modulated subcarrier, modulates the reflection of the radio signal, the reflected signal being a reflected modulated signal. The Interrogator receives and demodulates the reflected modulated signal to obtain the information signal. In one embodiment, demodulation utilizes a homodyne detector. In another embodiment, the Interrogator modulates an information signal onto the radio signal, transmits that modulated radio signal to the Tag, and the Tag demodulates that modulated radio signal to recover the information signal. In another embodiment, higher order phase modulations are used to modulate an information signal onto the subcarrier.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide FRID(radio frequency discriminator) in which necessary tag data are quickly transmitted even in the case where a plurality of tags exist in a reading area, which has up-link of relatively high speed and in which synchronization is quickly taken. SOLUTION: A radio transmission system generates a first modulation signal modulating a first information signal on a radio carrier signal, and has interrogators 103, 104 for transmitting it. The first information signal instructs by which of a plurality of response modes receiving tags 105-107 responds. At least one tag of the system receives the first modulation signal, and decodes to obtained the first information signal. A backscatterring modulator modulates the reflection of the first modulation signal by means of a second information signal. The contents, the data rate or the modulation of the second information signal are determined by the first information signal to form a second reflection modulation signal. The interrogators 103, 104 receive the second modulation signal, and decode to obtain the second information signal.

SOLUTION: An application processor 101 communicates with the question units 103 and 104 via a LAN 102, and the units 103 and 104 communicate with one or plural ones of tags 105 to 107. The unit 103 receives and fetches an information signal from the processor 101 and sends a message (down link message) and then the continuous wave radio signals to the tags. The tags modulate the received continuous wave radio signals via an MBS system. An antenna is switched to a reflector state from an absorber state for radiation of the radio frequency by a modulation signal.
