Preventive Analgesia by Local Anesthetics: The Reduction of Postoperative Pain by Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Intravenous Drugs

TL;DR: A general conclusion is that the significant antihyperalgesic effects occur when the local anesthetic is present during the acute postoperative period, and its presence during surgery is not essential for this action.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ketamine decreases postoperative pain scores in patients taking opioids for chronic pain: results of a prospective, randomized, double-blind study.

TL;DR: This study demonstrates that a postoperative ketamine infusion at 0.2 mg/kg/hour in addition to opioids results in a statistically significant reduction of "average" pain scores in patients undergoing surgery who take opioids for chronic pain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Opioid Stewardship Program and Postoperative Adverse Events: A Difference-in-differences Cohort Study.

TL;DR: The authors’ findings suggest that despite opioid and multimodal analgesia awareness, limited-duration educational interventions do not substantially change the hospital use of opioid analgesics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interprofessional Education for the Dentist in Managing Acute and Chronic Pain.

TL;DR: Accreditation standards are reviewed, recommendations from the International Association for the Study of Pain and regulatory boards are compared, and examples of enhanced pain education are presented.
