TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the role of high-tech in the creation of new and the replacement of old industries in the knowledge economy, and showed that there is considerable variation in manufacturing structures across OECD economies, and argued that structural diversity would diminish over time if growth was high-technology driven.
