In this paper, we present a novel distributed framework for real-time management and co-simulation of demand response (DR) in smart grids. Our solution provides a (near-) real-time co-simulation platform to validate new DR-policies exploiting Internet-of-Things approach performing software-in-the-loop. Hence, the behavior of real-world power systems can be emulated in a very realistic way and different DR-policies can be easily deployed and/or replaced in a plug-and-play fashion, without affecting the rest of the framework. In addition, our solution integrates real Internet-connected smart devices deployed at customer premises and along the smart grid to retrieve energy information and send actuation commands. Thus, the framework is also ready to manage DR in a real-world smart grid. This is demonstrated on a realistic smart grid with a test case DR-policy.

Integration of widely distributed small-scale Renewable Energy Sources like rooftop Photovoltaic panels and emerging loads like plug-in Electric Vehicles would cause more volatility in total net demand of distribution networks. Utility-owned storage units and control devices like tap changers and capacitors may not be sufficient to manage the system in real-time. Exploitation of available flexibility in demand side through aggregators is a new measure that distribution system operators are interested in. In this paper, we present a developed real-time management schema based on Internet of Things solutions which facilitate interactions between system operators and aggregators for ancillary services like power balance at primary substation or voltage regulation at secondary substations. Two algorithms for power balance and voltage regulation are developed based on modified Optimal Power Flow and voltage sensitivity matrix, respectively. To demonstrate the applicability of the schema, we set-up a real-time simulation- based test bed and realised the performance of this approach in a real-like environment using real data of a network with residential buildings.

IoT-Enabled Real-Time Management of Smart Grids With Demand Response Aggregators

In order to control a single/targeted load, an energy measurement and control infrastructure must be available for such load. Existing submetering technology is expensive, intended mostly for load measurement, proprietary, and not interoperable. An internet based multiple load-single smart meter and control (MLSSMC) infrastructure is proposed in this paper. As a single device, the MLSSMC can monitor and control multiple separate loads. It uses the internet as a universal communication platform to send data for display, automatic billing and data analysis. The MLSSMC can receive and implement a load control signal generated by the consumer or utility. The MLSSMC monitoring and control hardware and software infrastructure were developed. A 5 kVA power system with variable loads was used for experimental testing. As far as load measurements, the experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed MLSSMC is comparable to that of typical existing single load high end smart meters.

Multiple Loads-Single Smart Meter for Measurement and Control of Smart Grid

The main objective of this work is to illustrate a cost-effective smart meter. It is designed to measure the demand's power consumption and support the new requirements for operation and control functions in the distribution networks. Also, we propose and implement a novel DR program for this SM. The smart meter can be used as energy meter or as power quality meter (10 seconds, average). Based on open source technologies, it offers a plurality of communication possibilities, like USB, Ethernet, ZigBee or WLAN (802.11n). Additional calculations can be done within the external central system (DR Manager).

Requerimientos de VoIP en redes malladas inalámbricas con relaying

Resumen. Actualmente, el aumento de la densidad electromagnética es un hecho, siendo esto consecuencia del gran desarrollo tecnológico. Sin embargo, la falta de conocimiento y concientización sobre las diferentes tecnologías inalámbricas tiene como consecuencia que la población tenga cierta desconfianza o preocupación por su uso o posibles efectos en la salud. Es por ello que se abordó la temática junto con el Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones (ENACOM) apoyándose en los aportes realizados junto a diversas universidades finalizando en la Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT). Se plantea un método de medición y representación de los niveles de campo electromagnético para la ciudad de Río Cuarto con características similares a la recomendación ITU-T K.113. Se desarrolló un procedimiento de medición de inmisión basado en normativas y recomendaciones nacionales e internacionales. Las mediciones fueron llevadas a cabo utilizando un medidor de campo electromagnético de banda ancha junto a un equipo de GPS para poder posicionarlas luego. Se propuso un formato para el almacenamiento de los datos, estableciendo así un estándar para la carga de mediciones. Por otro lado, se creó un sistema de administración vía web para cargar dichas mediciones de manera segura y sistemática, finalmente se confeccionó el sitio para la representación de las mismas de forma que los ciudadanos puedan conocer los niveles de radiación dentro del ámbito urbano.
