Diet in the Epidemiology of Cancer of the Colon and Rectum

TL;DR: The decrease in risk the authors found associated with frequent ingestion of vegetables, and especially cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli, is consistent with the decreased numbers of tumors observed in animals challenged with carcinogens and fed compounds found in these same vegetables.
Journal ArticleDOI

A prospective randomized trial of 5-fluorouracil versus 5-fluorouracil and high-dose leucovorin versus 5-fluorouracil and methotrexate in previously untreated patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma.

TL;DR: Previously untreated patients with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma were prospectively randomized into one of three treatment regimens, and the predominant toxicity in the 5-FU alone regimen and the5-FU and MTX regimen was leukopenia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metastases in Small Lymph Nodes From Colon Cancer

TL;DR: It is concluded that lymph node metastases in colon cancer occur most frequently in lymph nodes measuring less than 5 mm (small lymph nodes), and the use of lymph node clearing techniques in surgical specimens improves detection of small lymph nodes metastases and thereby diminishes understaging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary epidemiology of cancer of the colon in western new york

TL;DR: The authors interviewed 428 pathologically confirmed cases of colon cancer and controls matched on age, sex, race, and neighborhood in the New York counties containing the cities of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Rochester to find the risk to increase with increases in the Quetelet index of relative weight.
Journal Article

Phase I-II Trial of High-Dose Calcium Leucovorin and 5-Fluorouracil in Advanced Colorectal Cancer

TL;DR: 5-FURA-CF appears to be effective in patients clinically resistant to 5-FUra, and this study is being extended to randomized trial of 5-Fura-CF versus 5-UFra alone.
