Journal ArticleDOI
STAT3 Regulates Lytic Activation of Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus.
TL;DR: KSHV exploits the cellular transcription factor STAT3 to regulate the susceptibility of latently infected cells to lytic triggers and highlights a common STAT3-centered strategy used by herpesviruses to maintain persistence in their hosts while also revealing a key molecule to pursue while devising methods to improve herpesvirus lytic-phase-directed therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dengue virus in bats from southeastern Mexico
Jesús Sotomayor-Bonilla,Andrea Chaves,Oscar Rico-Chávez,Melinda K. Rostal,Rafael Ojeda-Flores,Mónica Salas-Rojas,Álvaro Aguilar-Setien,Sergio Ibáñez-Bernal,Arturo Barbachano-Guerrero,Gustavo A. Gutiérrez-Espeleta,J. Leopoldo Aguilar-Faisal,A. Alonso Aguirre,Peter Daszak,Gerardo Suzán +13 more
TL;DR: This study is the first study conducted in southeastern Mexico to identify DENV-2 in bats by a widely accepted RT-PCR protocol and the role that bats play on DENV's ecology remains undetermined.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Burden of Dengue Fever and Chikungunya in Southern Coastal Ecuador: Epidemiology, Clinical Presentation, and Phylogenetics from the First Two Years of a Prospective Study.
Anna M. Stewart-Ibarra,Sadie J. Ryan,Aileen Kenneson,Christine A. King,Mark Abbott,Arturo Barbachano-Guerrero,Efraín Beltrán-Ayala,Mercy J. Borbor-Cordova,Washington B. Cárdenas,Cinthya Cueva,Julia L. Finkelstein,Christina D. Lupone,Richard G. Jarman,Irina Maljkovic Berry,Saurabh Mehta,Mark Polhemus,Mercy Silva,Timothy P. Endy +17 more
TL;DR: Enhanced surveillance studies, such as this, provide high-resolution data on symptomatic and inapparent infections across the population, indicating the presence of viral flow between Ecuador and surrounding countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virome and bacteriome characterization of children with pneumonia and asthma in Mexico City during winter seasons 2014 and 2015.
Jose A. I. Romero‐Espinoza,Yazmin Moreno-Valencia,Rodrigo H. Coronel-Tellez,Manuel Castillejos-López,Andres Hernandez,Aaron Dominguez,Ángel Miliar-García,Arturo Barbachano-Guerrero,Rogelio Pérez-Padilla,Alejandro Alejandre-Garcia,Joel A. Vazquez-Perez +10 more
TL;DR: The results show a complex viral and bacterial composition in asthma and pneumonia groups with a strong association of RV-C presence in asthmatic children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential sympatric vectors and mammalian hosts of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus in southern Mexico.
Jesús Sotomayor-Bonilla,Carlos Antonio Abella-Medrano,Andrea Chaves,Paulina Álvarez-Mendizábal,Oscar Rico-Chávez,Sergio Ibáñez-Bernal,Melinda K. Rostal,Rafael Ojeda-Flores,Arturo Barbachano-Guerrero,Arturo Barbachano-Guerrero,Gustavo A. Gutiérrez-Espeleta,A. Alonso Aguirre,Peter Daszak,Gerardo Suzán +13 more
TL;DR: This survey simultaneously presents the first molecular evidence, to the authors' knowledge, of VEEV in bats and rodents from southern Mexico and the identification of potential sympatric vectors.
