Sustainable inventory management with deteriorating and imperfect quality items considering carbon emission

Supplier selection (SS) is considered a sophisticated, application-oriented, decision-making (DM) problem and has received considerable attention. In the past two decades, DM theories and techniques continue to be incorporated into and contribute to the development of SS applications. Maintaining the pace of the rapid transitions in this field, this paper systematically reviews the relevant articles published between 2013 and 2018. Articles that orient various DM techniques are selected and analyzed under a well-established framework. State-of-the-art developments in the adoption of DM techniques are summarized in a SS process. We pay particular attention to promising directions that can dominate future research in this field. This paper further extends the history of several interacting fields, including big data and economic theories, toward methodological rather than application dimensions. The potential of such fields for SS is discussed from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The turning points of carbon Kuznets curve: Evidences from panel and time-series data of 164 countries

The traditional self-interest hypothesis is far from perfect. Social preference has a significant impact on every firm’s decision making. This paper incorporates reciprocal preferences and consumers’ low-carbon awareness (CLA) into the dyadic supply chain in which a single manufacturer plays a Stackelberg-like game with a single retailer. This research intends to investigate how reciprocity and CLA may affect the decisions and performances of the supply chain members and the system’s efficiency. In this study, the following two scenarios are discussed: (1) both the manufacturer and the retailer have no reciprocal preferences and (2) both of them have reciprocal preferences. We derive equilibriums under both scenarios and present a numerical analysis. We demonstrate that reciprocal preferences and CLA significantly affect the equilibrium and firms’ profits and utilities. First, the optimal retail price increases with CLA, while it decreases with the reciprocity of the retailer and the manufacturer; the optimal wholesale price increases with CLA and the retailer’s reciprocity, while it decreases with the manufacturer’s reciprocity. The optimal emission reduction level increases with CLA and the reciprocity of both the manufacturer and the retailer. Second, the optimal profits of the participants and the supply chain increase with CLA, the participants’ optimal profits are concave in their own reciprocity and increase with their co-operators’ reciprocity. Third, the participants’ optimal utilities increase with CLA and their reciprocity. Finally, the supply chain efficiency increases with the participants’ reciprocity, while the efficiency decreases with CLA.

Carbon emission reduction and pricing policies of a supply chain considering reciprocal preferences in cap-and-trade system

Non-stationary stochastic inventory lot-sizing with emission and service level constraints in a carbon cap-and-trade system

Inventory lot-sizing and supplier selection problem has been studied in the literature considering mainly time-varying deterministic demand. However, in real life, most of the products exhibit non-stationary stochastic demand. In this context, we propose an integer linear programming model for inventory lot-sizing and supplier selection problem under non-stationary stochastic demand with all-units quantity discounts and fill rate constraints. Through detailed analysis of experimental results, we show the impacts of fill rate requirements and demand coefficient of variation on costs, inventory levels and order allocations.

Inventory lot-sizing with supplier selection under non-stationary stochastic demand

A vendor-managed inventory (VMI) relationship between a downstream retailer and an upstream vendor consists of two distinct components: (i) information sharing (IS) and (ii) a shift in decision-making responsibility. This study compares these two components of VMI in a two-stage serial supply chain based on the ‘static uncertainty’ strategy under dynamic and random demand with fill rate constraints. Numerical experiments are conducted using analytical models to identify the conditions where the incremental value of VMI over IS is significant. The results provide guidelines relevant to academia and supply chain practitioners in taking VMI adoption decision above and beyond IS according to their specific business environment.

VMI versus information sharing: an analysis under static uncertainty strategy with fill rate constraints


 Active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback during galaxy merger has been the most favoured model to explain black hole–galaxy co-evolution. However, how the AGN-driven jet/wind/radiation is coupled with the gas of the merging galaxies, which leads to positive feedback, momentarily enhanced star formation, and subsequently negative feedback, a decline in star formation, is poorly understood. Only a few cases are known where the jet and companion galaxy interaction leads to minor off-axis distortions in the jets and enhanced star formation in the gas-rich minor companions. Here, we briefly report one extraordinary case, RAD12, discovered by RAD@home citizen science collaboratory, where for the first time a radio jet–driven bubble (∼ 137 kpc) is showing a symmetric reflection after hitting the incoming galaxy which is not a gas-rich minor but a gas-poor early-type galaxy in a major merger. Surprisingly, neither positive feedback nor any radio lobe on the counter jet side, if any, is detected. It is puzzling if RAD12 is a genuine one-sided jet or a case of radio lobe trapped, compressed and re-accelerated by shocks during the merger. This is the first imaging study of RAD12 presenting follow-up with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, archival MeerKAT radio data and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope optical data.
