Cancer-associated stroke: Pathophysiology, detection and management (Review)
Efthimios Dardiotis,Athina-Maria Aloizou,Sofia Markoula,Vasileios Siokas,Konstantinos Tsarouhas,G. N. Tzanakakis,Massimo Libra,Athanassios P. Kyritsis,Alexandros G. Brotis,Michael Aschner,Illana Gozes,Dimitrios P. Bogdanos,Demetrios A. Spandidos,Panayiotis D. Mitsias,Aristidis Tsatsakis +14 more
TL;DR: The cancer should be considered a contraindication in applying thrombolysis and recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rTPA) administration, since the risk of hemorrhage in cancer patients has not been reported to be higher than that in the general population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unraveling the Possible Routes of SARS-COV-2 Invasion into the Central Nervous System
Maria Lima,Vasileios Siokas,Athina-Maria Aloizou,Ioannis Liampas,Alexios-Fotios A. Mentis,Alexios-Fotios A. TL;DR: Current data suggest that other routes, involving the nasal epithelium in general, lymphatic tissue and the CSF may also play roles in SARS-CoV-2 invasion into the CNS, and two main pathways of CNS penetration seem to be the strongest candidates, the hematogenous and the neuronal.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: There is an overall indication, derived from both epidemiologic and laboratory evidence, supporting an association between exposure to neurotoxic pesticides and cognitive dysfunction, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bogdanos,Georgios M. Hadjigeorgiou,Georgios M. Hadjigeorgiou +15 more
TL;DR: The different mechanisms contributing to brain atrophy are described, their clinical relevance on disease presentation and course and the effect of current or emergent DMDs onbrain atrophy and neuroprotection are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of MicroRNAs in Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Efthimios Dardiotis,Athina-Maria Aloizou,Vasileios Siokas,George P. Patrinos,George P. Patrinos,Georgia Deretzi,Panayiotis D. Mitsias,Michael Aschner,Aristidis Tsatsakis +8 more
TL;DR: The deregulation of some specific miRNAs seems to compose a miRNA expression profile that is specific for ALS, as they were found consistently deregulated in studies examined in ALS patients.
