A process for manufacturing high strength deep well casing, tubing, and drill pipes, which have improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of preparing an alloy composition which is: ______________________________________ C ≦0.05% Si ≦1.0%Mn ≦2.0% P ≦0.030%S ≦0.005% N 0-0.30%Ni 25-60% Cr 15-35%Mo 0-12% W 0-24%Cr (%) + 10Mo (%) + 5W (%) ≧ 50%1.5% ≦ Mo (%) + 1/2W (%) ≦ 12%Cu 0-2.0% Co 0-2.0%Rare Earths 0-0.10% Y 0-0.20%Mg 0-0.10% Ti 0-0.5% Ca 0-0.10%and incidental impurities balance;______________________________________ applying, after hot working, the solid solution treatment to the alloy at a temperature of from the lower limit temperature (°C.) defined by the following empirical formula: 260 log C(%)+1300 to the upper limit temperature (°C. ) defined by the following empirical formula: 16Mo(%)+10W(%)+10Cr(%)+777 for a period of time of not longer than 2 hours; and applying cold working to the resulting alloy with a reduction in thickness of 10-60%. The hot working may be carried out with a reduction in thickness of 10% or more for the temperature range of not higher than the recrystallizing temperature thereof.

As demands have risen and reservoirs of oil and natural gas have depleted, it has become increasingly more important to tap into fields that were once classified as undesirable. Sour fields, fields high in acidic gases, such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, are one such option. There are many difficulties and dangers associated with working sour fields, such as toxicity of the sour gases, hydrate formation, and corrosion of equipment, that have prevented these resources from being used in the past. Many varied methods of overcoming these problems have been developed, from removing the sour components to inhibiting their effects. This review highlights the major issues raised by sour fields as well as a wide range of solutions in use today.

A Ni base alloy pipe stock having a chemical composition comprising, by mass %, C≦0.04%, Si≦0.50%, Mn: 0.01 to 6.0%, P≦0.03%, S≦0.01%, Cr: 15 to 30%, Ni: more than 45% to not more than 60%, Mo: 0 to 18%, W: 0 to 36%, with Mo(%)+0.5W(%): more than 1.5% to not more than 18%, Cu: 0.01 to 1.5%, Al≦0.01% and N: 0.0005 to 0.20%, and the balance substantially being Fe, with 1380−5000P−100S−4400C≧1300, Ni+10(Mo+0.5W)+100N≦200, (Ni−50)+10(N−0.1)−2(Cr−25)−5(Mo+0.5W−6)+12≧0, can be manufactured into a seamless pipe by use of a Mannesmann piercing and rolling mill because of its excellent inner surface properties. The resulting seamless pipe has excellent mechanical properties and moreover has excellent corrosion resistance in a sour gas environment, and thus, the Ni base alloy pipe stock can be used as a pipe stock for oil country tubular goods and line pipes and further as a pipe stock for various structural members of nuclear power plants and chemical industrial plants.

A nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy affords high resistance to aggressive corrosives, including chlorides which cause crevice corrosion and oxidizing acids which promote intergranular corrosion, the alloy also being readily weldable and possessing structural stability at very low as well as elevated temperatures. The alloy consists essentially of, (by weight), 19-23% Cr, 12-15% Mo, 2.25-4% W, 0.65-2% Nb, 2-8% Fe, balance Ni.

Corrosion resistant nickel-base alloy

An alloy and a metal product characterized by resistance to localized corrosion, hydrogen sulfide stress cracking (hydrogen embrittlement) and stress corrosion cracking at temperatures up to about 200° C. consisting essentially of nickel 40-65%, cobalt 0-5%, chromium 10-20%, molybdenum 12-18%, iron 10-20%, tungsten up to 5%, carbon 0-0.1% manganese up to 3%, vanadium up to 1% and silicon up to 0.2%. The alloy resistance is maintained when it is cold worked over 20%.
