An emerging, cost-effective method to examine prevalent and future health risks of persons with disabilities is electronic health record (EHR) analysis. As an example, a case-control EHR analysis of adults with autism spectrum disorder receiving primary care through the Cleveland Clinic from 2005 to 2008 identified 108 adults with autism spectrum disorder. In this cohort, rates of chronic disease included 34.9% for obesity, 31.5% for hyperlipidemia, and 19.4% for hypertension. Compared with a control cohort of patients from the same health system matched for age, sex, race, and health insurance status, adults with autism spectrum disorder were more likely to be diagnosed with hyperlipidemia (odds ratio  =  2.0, confidence interval  =  1.2–3.4, p  =  .012). Without intervention, adults with autism spectrum disorder appear to be at significant risk for developing diabetes, coronary heart disease, and cancer by midlife.

Privacy concern is arguably the major barrier that hinders the deployment of electronic health record (EHR) systems which are considered more efficient, less error-prone, and of higher availability compared to traditional paper record systems. Patients are unwilling to accept the EHR system unless their protected health information (PHI) containing highly confidential data is guaranteed proper use and disclosure, which cannot be easily achieved without patients' control over their own PHI. However, cautions must be taken to handle emergencies in which the patient may be physically incompetent to retrieve the controlled PHI for emergency treatment. In this paper, we propose a secure EHR system, HCPP (Healthcaresystem for Patient Privacy), based on cryptographic constructions and existing wireless network infrastructures, to provide privacy protection to patients under any circumstances while enabling timelyPHI retrieval for life-saving treatment in emergency situations. Furthermore, our HCPP system restricts PHI access to authorized (not arbitrary) physicians, who can be traced and held accountable if the accessed PHI is found improperly disclosed. Last but not least, HCPP leverages wireless network access to support efficient and private storage/retrieval of PHI, which underlies a secure and feasible EHR system.

Big Data encompasses large volume of complex structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, which is beyond the processing capabilities of conventional databases. The processing and analysis of Big Data now play a central role in decision making, forecasting, business analysis, product development, customer experience, and loyalty, to name but a few. In this paper, we examine the distinguishing characteristics of Big Data along the lines of the 3Vs: variety, volume, and velocity. Accordingly, the paper provides an insight into the main processing paradigms in relation to the 3Vs. It defines a lifecycle for Big Data processing and classifies various available tools and technologies in terms of the lifecycle phases of Big Data, which include data acquisition, data storage, data analysis, and data exploitation of the results. This paper is first of its kind that reviews and analyzes current trends and technologies in relation to the characteristics, evolution, and processing of Big Data. Emerging trends and technologies in big data processing

Objectives The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act created incentives for adopting electronic health records (EHRs) for some healthcare organisations, but long-term care (LTC) facilities are excluded from those incentives. There are realisable benefits of EHR adoption in LTC facilities; however, there is limited research about this topic. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to identify EHR adoption factors for LTC facilities that are ineligible for the HITECH Act incentives. Setting We conducted systematic searches of Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) Complete via Ebson B. Stephens Company (EBSCO Host), Google Scholar and the university library search engine to collect data about EHR adoption factors in LTC facilities since 2009. Participants Search results were filtered by date range, full text, English language and academic journals (n=22). Interventions Multiple members of the research team read each article to confirm applicability and study conclusions. Primary and secondary outcome measures Researchers identified common themes across the literature: specifically facilitators and barriers to adoption of the EHR in LTC. Results Results identify facilitators and barriers associated with EHR adoption in LTC facilities. The most common facilitators include access to information and error reduction. The most prevalent barriers include initial costs, user perceptions and implementation problems. Conclusions Similarities span the system selection phases and implementation process; of those, cost was the most common mentioned. These commonalities should help leaders in LTC facilities align strategic decisions to EHR adoption. This review may be useful for decision-makers attempting successful EHR adoption, policymakers trying to increase adoption rates without expanding incentives and vendors that produce EHRs.

Adoption factors associated with electronic health record among long-term care facilities: a systematic review

Previous works about spatial information incorporation into a traditional bag-of-visual-words (BOVW) model mainly consider the spatial arrangement of an image, ignoring the rich textural information in land-use remote-sensing images. Hence, this article presents a 2-D wavelet decomposition (WD)-based BOVW model for land-use scene classification, since the 2-D wavelet decomposition method does well not only in textural feature extraction, but also in the multi-resolution representation of an image, which is favourable for the use of both spatial arrangement and textural information in land-use images. A sensor is a device that converts one type of energy to another. Arduino is a small microcontroller board with a USB plug to connect to the computer. The Arduino board senses the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling LCD, speakers, motors and GS module. Ultrasonic Sensor measure the distance of target objects or materials through the air using “non-contact” technology. They measure distance without damage and are easy to use. The output Signals received by the sensor are in the analog form, and output is digitally formatted and processed by microcontroller. In present work, it is used to detecting an obstacle, along with its exact distance. The internal analog to digital converter is used is calibrated to get almost accurate distance measurement. The measured distance is also displayed on an LCD screen.
