Analysis of Memory B Cell Responses and Isolation of Novel Monoclonal Antibodies with Neutralizing Breadth from HIV-1-Infected Individuals
Davide Corti,Johannes P. M. Langedijk,Andreas Hinz,Michael S. Seaman,Fabrizia Vanzetta,Blanca Fernandez-Rodriguez,Chiara Silacci,Debora Pinna,David Jarrossay,Sunita S. Balla-Jhagjhoorsingh,B. Willems,Maria J. Zekveld,Hanna Dreja,Eithne O'Sullivan,Corinna Pade,Chloe Orkin,Simon A. Jeffs,David C. Montefiori,David Davis,Winfried Weissenhorn,Áine McKnight,Jonathan L. Heeney,Federica Sallusto,Quentin J. Sattentau,Robin A. Weiss,Antonio Lanzavecchia +25 more
TL;DR: This study reveals that by using appropriate screening methods, a large proportion of memory B cells can be isolated that produce mAbs with HIV-1 neutralizing activity, and three of these mAbs show unusual breadth of neutralization and therefore add to the current panel of HIV- 1 neutralizing antibodies with potential for passive protection and template-based vaccine design.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retrospective detection of asymptomatic monkeypox virus infections among male sexual health clinic attendees in Belgium
Irith De Baetselier,Christophe Van Dijck,Chris Kenyon,J. Coppens,Johan Michiels,Tessa De Block,Hilde Smet,Sandra Coppens,Fien Vanroye,Joachim Jakob Bugert,Philipp Girl,Sabine Zange,Laurens Liesenborghs,Isabel Brosius,Johan van Griensven,Philippe Selhorst,Eric Florence,Dorien Van den Bossche,Kevin K. Ariën,Antonio Mauro Rezende,Koen Vercauteren,Marjan Van Esbroeck,Kadrie Ramadan,Tom Platteau,K. Van Looveren,Jolien Baeyens,Cindy Van Hoyweghen,M. Mangelschots,Leo Heyndrickx,Anne Hauner,B. Willems,Emmanuel Bottieau,Patrick Soentjens,Nicole Berens,Saskia van Henten,Stefanie Bracke,Thibaut Vanbaelen,Leendert Vandenhove,Jacob Verschueren,Marie Laga,Jef Vanhamel,Bea Vuylsteke +41 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated whether undiagnosed infections occurred among men attending a Belgian sexual health clinic in May 2022, and they found that certain cases of monkeypox remain unddiagnosed and suggest that testing and quarantining of individuals reporting symptoms may not suffice to contain the outbreak.
Journal Article
Antigenic evidence of the presence of the aberrant HIV-1ant70 virus in Cameroon and Gabon.
John N. Nkengasong,M. Peeters,M. Vanden Haesevelde,S. S. Musi,B. Willems,Peter M. Ndumbe,Eric Delaporte,Jean-Luc Perret,Peter Piot,G. Van den Groen +9 more
TL;DR: The authors suggest that the results of a research project on the prevalence of sera collected from HIV-1 positive people in Cameroon Gabon Ivory Coast and Kenya which are reactive to a genetically divergent HIV-2 V3 peptide isolate (ANT70) and peptides obtained from 3 other HIV- 1 isolates should prompt further investigation in mapping antigenic diversity in Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and characterization of sera from HIV-infected individuals with broad cross-neutralizing activity against group M (env clade A-H) and group O primary HIV-1 isolates.
Els Beirnaert,Phillipe N. Nyambi,B. Willems,Leo Heyndrickx,Robert Colebunders,Wouter Janssens,G van der Groen +6 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that three isolates are sufficient to allow identification of broad cross‐neutralizing sera in primary HIV‐1 isolates belonging to different genetic groups and clades.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design and evaluation of an in-house HIV-1 (group M and O), SIVmnd and SIVcpz antigen capture assay
Els Beirnaert,B. Willems,M. Peeters,A Bouckaert,Leo Heyndrickx,Ping Zhong,K Vereecken,Sandra Coppens,David A. Davis,Peter M. Ndumbe,Wouter Janssens,G van der Groen +11 more
TL;DR: This study shows that a considerably less expensive but sufficiently accurate HIV-1 antigen capture assay can be developed to monitor HIV- 1 (group M and O), SIVcpv and SIVmnd antigen in the supernatants of virus cultures.
