A review of separation technologies in current and future biorefineries

TL;DR: A critical review of separation methods and technologies related to biorefining including pre-extraction of hemicellulose and other value-added chemicals, detoxification of fermentation hydrolyzates, and ethanol product separation and dehydration is presented in this article.
BookDOI

Separation and Purification Technologies in Biorefineries

TL;DR: A better understanding of separation and purification processes, current and possible alternative and novel advanced methods is essential for achieving the overall technoeconomic feasibility and commercial success of sustainable biorefineries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calculation of single fiber efficiencies for interception and impaction with superposed brownian motion

TL;DR: In this article, the single fiber efficiency of fibrous filters was studied by using a Brownian dynamics simulation technique, which permits a rigorous and simultaneous consideration of all the important mechanisms of particle capture including interception, inertial impaction and Brownian motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of cake growth in cake filtration: Effect of fine particle retention

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived equations that describe the dynamics of cake growth in cake filtration, and methods for their solutions were developed, where the moving boundary nature of the cake formation process and the effect of fine particle retention were considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Hot Water Extraction on Hardwood Kraft Pulp fibers (Acer saccharum, Sugar Maple)

TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of fibers obtained from the kraft pulping of pre-extracted sugar maple wood chips were investigated. But, the results showed that the fiber lengths showed no change, but the fines content was reduced, and the porosity of the cell wall also increased with extraction severity.
