Role of polyamines in determining the cellular response to chemotherapeutic agents: modulation of protein kinase CK2 expression and activity
TL;DR: Treatment with oxaliplatin and DENSPM in combination impairs cell viability particularly in the case of colorectal cancer cells, and analysis of CK2 expression and activity indicates that the response to a specific treatment may depend on the impact that individual compounds exert on pro-survival and pro-death proteins at the transcription and translation levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Down-regulation of CK2α correlates with decreased expression levels of DNA replication minichromosome maintenance protein complex (MCM) genes.
Susanne Schaefer,Thomas Koed Doktor,Sabrina Brøner Frederiksen,Kathleen Chea,Mirka Hlavacova,Gitte Hoffmann Bruun,Maj Rabjerg,Brage S. Andresen,Isabel Dominguez,Barbara Guerra +9 more
TL;DR: Evidence that CK2α depletion causes delayed cell cycle progression through the S-phase and defective response to replication stress is reported, providing new evidence for a critical role of protein kinase CK2 in controlling DNA replication initiation and the expression levels of replicative DNA helicases, which ensure maintenance of proliferative potential and genome integrity in eukaryotic cells.
Book ChapterDOI
Screening of DTP Compound Libraries for CK2 Inhibitors with Focus on Natural Products
TL;DR: Various compound libraries of the Drug Therapeutic Program (DTP) of the NIH/NCI were screened against the catalytic subunit and the tetrameric holoenzyme of protein kinase CK2 and opposite results were obtained.
