This invention is a modular blood filter device, and delivery system (10) comprising a hollow vessel insertion device (20) with a modular filter apparatus (40). The insertion device (20), which can be an introducer, includes a distal end (24) adapted to enter an artery, and a proximal end adapted to receive a modular filter apparatus (40). When the insertion device (20) is a cannula, the modular filter apparatus (40) is received through a side port (32). The modular filter apparatus (40) includes a shaft (62), an adjustable filter device or a removable filter (70) which includes a filter mesh (80), an adjustable frame (72), and a sizing mechanism (74).

Adjustable blood filtration system

This invention is a modular blood filter device (10) and delivery system, comprising an arterial cannula (20) with a modular filter device (10). The arterial cannula (20) includes a distal end (24) adapted to enter an artery, and a side port (32) for receiving a modular filter cartridge (42). The modular filter cartridge (42) includes a tubular cartridge (42), and a shaft (62) having a handle (68) on one end and an expandable filter device (60) on the other end. The expandable filter device (60) includes filter mesh (80) and an expansion frame (72) capable of assuming enlarged and contracted conditions. The shaft (62) is inserted into the cartridge, thereby containing the expandable filter device (60) therein. The cartridge (42) may be then removably received by the side port (32) on the cannula. The cannula (20) may be introduced into a blood vessel, and the expandable filter device (60) may be deployed through the cannula (20) into the vessel. The expansion frame (72) may be expanded to the enlarged condition to capture embolic material in the mesh (80), may be collapsed to the contracted condition, and may be removed from the vessel. The modular filter cartridge (42) may be removed from the cannula (20), and a new modular filter cartridge (42) may then be received therein.

Modular filter with delivery system

A modular blood filter device and delivery system, comprising an arterial cannula with a modular filter device. The modular filter cartridge may be removed from the cannula, and a new modular filter cartridge may then be received therein.

Catalytic glycosylation has been a central reaction in carbohydrate chemistry since its introduction by Fischer 125 years ago, but it is only in the past three to four decades that catalytic methods for synthesizing oligosaccharides have appeared. Despite the development of numerous elegant and ingenious catalytic glycosylation methods, only a few are in general use. This review covers all methods of catalytic glycosylation with the focus on the development and application in oligosaccharide synthesis and provide an overview of the scope and limitations of these. The review also includes relevant mechanistic studies of catalytic glycosylations. The future of catalytic glycosylation chemistry is discussed, including specific, upcoming methods and possible directions for the field of research in general.

A process for the preparation of penicillanic acid 1,1-dioxide and esters thereof readily hydrolyzable in vivo, which comprises oxidation of a 6-halopenicillanic acid, or an ester thereof readily hydrolyzable in vivo, to the corresponding 6-halopenicillanic acid 1,1-dioxide or ester thereof, followed by dehalogenation (e.g. by hydrogenolysis). Certain of the 6-halopenicillanic acid 1,1-dioxides and esters thereof readily hydrolyzable in vivo are novel intermediates. Penicillanic acid 1,1-dioxide, and esters thereof readily hydrolyzable in vivo are known compounds which are beta-lactamase inhibitors and which enhance the effectiveness of certain beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. the penicillins) in the treatment of bacterial infections in mammals, particularly humans.
