Multi criteria decision making (MCDM) is one of the research areas of operations research and management science which has widely studied by researchers and practitioners. It finds a compromise solution for evaluating and ranking alternatives from the best to the worst under conflicting criteria with respect to decision maker(s) preferences. In a compromise approach, the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR; that means multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) continues to be applied satisfactorily across different application areas. This paper conducts a state-of-the-art literature review to categorize, analyze and interpret the current research on VIKOR applications. It also discusses the extensions of VIKOR applied in fuzzy environments. A total of 343 papers are classified into 13 different application areas and a number of sub-application areas. Furthermore, all papers are also categorized with respect to publication year, published journal, country of origin, application type (real case study vs empirical study), and version of fuzzy sets used. This comprehensive literature review provides an insight for researchers and practitioners on VIKOR applications in terms of showing current state and potential areas for future attempts to be focused in the future.

A state of the art literature review of VIKOR and its fuzzy extensions on applications

The recent financial crisis and other major crises have suggested that there are some strong interactions and interdependence between several supply chains and their external environments in various ways. A set of supply chains that are interdependent is called a holistic supply chain network (H-SCN) in this paper. There is a need to focus on building the resilience (in short, the ability of a system to recover from damage or disruption) of an entire H-SCN as it is believed that such a network system is strongly relevant to the recent economic recession that is triggered by financial crises. The objectives of this paper are to provide a classification of different SCNs in literature, leading to the identification of a new type of SCN system, i.e., an H-SCN, and to discuss the state of knowledge on the resilience of SCNs, particularly of an H-SCN. A systematic review approach is applied in this paper. Another contribution of this paper is the provision of a more comprehensive definition and description of resilient systems, including SCN systems. A final contribution of this paper is the proposal of the future directions of research on resilient SCN systems, particularly resilient H-SCN systems.

A decision making process requires the values of conflicting objectives for alternatives and the selection of the best alternative according to the needs of decision makers. Multi-objective optimization methods may provide solution for this selection. In this paper it is aimed to present the laptop selection problem based on MOORA plus full multiplicative form (MULTIMOORA) and multi-objective optimization on the basis of simple ratio analysis (MOOSRA) which are relatively new multi-objective optimization methods. The novelty of this paper is solving this problem with the MULTIMOORA and MOOSRA methods for the first time.

The multi-objective decision making methods based on MULTIMOORA and MOOSRA for the laptop selection problem

The purpose of this paper is to find out an efficient decision support method for non-traditional machine selection. It seeks to analyze potential non-traditional machine selection attributes with a relatively new MCDM approach of MOORA and MOOSRA method. The use of MOORA and MOOSRA method has been adopted to tackle subjective evaluation of information collected from an expert group. An example case study is shown here for better understanding of the said selection module which can be effectively applied to any other decision-making scenario. The method is not only computationally very simple, easily comprehensible, and robust, but also believed to have numerous subjective attributes. The rankings are expected to provide good guidance to the managers of an organization to select a feasible non-traditional machine. It shall also provide a good insight for the non-traditional machine manufacturer who might encourage research work concerning non-traditional machine selection.

A responsive and flexible supply chain in the global product value chain set-up links the manufacturer with various inter-company entities, such as suppliers, distributors, contract manufacturers and customers to deal with volatile demand. Multiple decoupling point paradigms in a global supply chain syndrome: a relational analysis

This paper presents a method of selecting cotton bales to meet the specified ring yarn properties using artificial neural networks. Five yarn properties and yarn count were used as inputs, whereas the Spinning Consistency Index (SCI) and micronaire were the outputs to the neural network models. Bales were selected according to the predicted combinations of SCI and micronaire. The properties of yarns spun from selected bales show good association with the target yarn properties.

In this paper, we initially conducted a brief review of supplier selection methods to find most cited multi-criteria decision making method, present trend of supplier selection and most cited criteria for supplier selection. Our study reveals that irrespective of several limitations of analytic hierarchy process (AHP), AHP and its integrated model is most preferred supplier selection method. Present research trend of supplier selection gives more emphasises on multiple sourcing instead of single sourcing. Based on our initial study, a suitable integrated model is proposed. In this integrated model, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje; in Serbian) is used to select suppliers from a predefined supplier base. Multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is used further to allocate order among suppliers. Finally, a case study is discussed to use proposed method.
