Display Omitted A review of VIKOR and its fuzzy extensions on applications is presented.The systematic classification covers 13 different application areas.It provides an insight for researchers and practitioners on VIKOR applications. Multi criteria decision making (MCDM) is one of the research areas of operations research and management science which has widely studied by researchers and practitioners. It finds a compromise solution for evaluating and ranking alternatives from the best to the worst under conflicting criteria with respect to decision maker(s) preferences. In a compromise approach, the VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR; that means multi-criteria optimization and compromise solution) continues to be applied satisfactorily across different application areas. This paper conducts a state-of-the-art literature review to categorize, analyze and interpret the current research on VIKOR applications. It also discusses the extensions of VIKOR applied in fuzzy environments. A total of 343 papers are classified into 13 different application areas and a number of sub-application areas. Furthermore, all papers are also categorized with respect to publication year, published journal, country of origin, application type (real case study vs empirical study), and version of fuzzy sets used. This comprehensive literature review provides an insight for researchers and practitioners on VIKOR applications in terms of showing current state and potential areas for future attempts to be focused in the future.

A state of the art literature review of VIKOR and its fuzzy extensions on applications

Recently, Multiple-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) tools have increasingly been expanded to help researchers and practitioners to evaluate and select the best compromise alternatives. Among popular MCDM methods, Vlsekriterijumska Optimizacija I KOmpromisno Resenje (VIKOR) has attracted much attention to cope with complex problems with conflict factors. The current study conducted a state-of-the-art literature review to embody the research on VIKOR and its applications. The paper structure consists of 198 papers from more than 100 journals and conference proceedings since 2002 which were classified into nine categories: 1) Design and manufacturing management, 2) Business and marketing management, 3) Supply chain and logistics management, 4) Environmental resources and energy management, 5) Construction management, 6) Education management, 7) Health-care and risk management, 8) Tourism management, and 9) Other topics. The last topic contains Information and knowledge management, Mine industry, etc. The study also proposes four classifications: 1) Publication year, 2) Journals, 3) other techniques combined or compared with VIKOR, and 4) Keywords distribution by VIKOR papers specifications. Finally, it was proposed forthcoming areas of study and recommendations for practical means. This study intends to generate insights on decision making techniques.

VIKOR and its Applications: A State-of-the-Art Survey

Supplier selection and management system considering relationships in supply chain management

This paper aims to evaluate and prioritize the key supplier selection indicators and to establish the relationship between available alternatives and selected indicators by using step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA) and weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS).,Authors have extracted the supplier selection criteria from literature and used a combined SWARA-WASPAS method to evaluate and rank the criteria’s. SWARA is applied for evaluating and weighting selection criteria, whereas WASPAS helped in evaluating different available alternatives based on supplier selection indicators.,Finding from SWARA suggests that supplier management is the high weighted criteria followed by information sharing and joint actions. WASPAS was used to evaluate the available alternatives and supplier A1 got the highest priority. Additionally, sensitivity analysis indicates the different scenarios for the best supplier selection.,Working executives can use the SWARA for assessment of weights of finalized indicators for their firm in the cement industry. Further, the calculated weights can be used for product and sum weightage through WASPAS to finalize the best supplier.,The originality of the manuscript lies in the sector and methodology. Author(s) applied the SWARA and WASPAS method for supplier selection in the Indian cement industry that will help working executives to evaluate their supply chain partners.

Supplier selection using SWARA and WASPAS – a case study of Indian cement industry

In supply chain literature, supplier evaluation and selection problem is one of the most studied subjects because of the significant roles of suppliers in terms of the chain’s sustainability and profitability. Therefore, it is important for organizations to adopt a systematic way to evaluate and select the best supplier according to their respective criteria in today’s competitive environment. Multicriteria decision-making methods provide for this need of organizations because determination of an appropriate supplier selection is a multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) problem essentially. Although a lot of applications of these methods for supplier evaluation and selection can be seen in the literature, studies in the health-care sector are insufficient. Hospitals in the health-care sector also have to consider their supplier-related decisions to decrease risks and threads which affect their effectiveness. The aim of this study was to fill this gap by providing different hybrid models for selecting the best supplier for hospitals. Supplier evaluation and selection process start with recognizing the related criteria according to the studies in the literature. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method is deployed to weight the criteria, and suppliers are listed via technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), elimination and choice translating reality English (ELECTRE), grey relational analysis (GRA), and simple additive weighting (SAW) methods. The main aim of this study was to present different hybrid MCDM methods and show their efficiency and consistency with each other. In this study, hybrid multicriteria decision-making models (AHP-TOPSIS, AHP-ELECTRE, AHP-GRA, and AHP-SAW) are presented and compared. The results show that the presented hybrid methods in this study are consistent with each other and give the same ranking for the selection of the best supplier. It can be considered as a useful guideline for hospitals.

Integrated Multicriteria Decision-Making Methods to Solve Supplier Selection Problem: A Case Study in a Hospital.

Sole purpose of supplier selection is not limited to get supply at low cost and at right time. Supplier selection is a strategic decision to fulfil company's goal for long period of time at low risk. To accomplish this objective companies are moving from reactive buying to proactive buying to give more priority to co-creation of wealth with supplier/s. Considering this issue an attempt has been made in this paper to give systematic review of supplier selection and evaluation process from 2005 to 2012 to answer three main questions: 1) Which method is more appropriate for supplier selection? 2) Which evaluating criteria were most cited? 3) Is present trend of research is adequate enough to support proactive buying? In this regard, 78 papers are classified into ten categories to identify factors affecting supplier selection and evaluation process. Statistical analysis has been conducted with software 'R' to have better insight on the trend of research. Recommendations and future work is also included to verify inadequacy of existing methods, if any, to support proactive buying process.

Analytic hierarchy process and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution: a bibliometric analysis 'from' past, present and future of AHP and TOPSIS

In this paper, we initially conducted a brief review of supplier selection methods to find most cited multi-criteria decision making method, present trend of supplier selection and most cited criteria for supplier selection. Our study reveals that irrespective of several limitations of analytic hierarchy process (AHP), AHP and its integrated model is most preferred supplier selection method. Present research trend of supplier selection gives more emphasises on multiple sourcing instead of single sourcing. Based on our initial study, a suitable integrated model is proposed. In this integrated model, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje; in Serbian) is used to select suppliers from a predefined supplier base. Multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is used further to allocate order among suppliers. Finally, a case study is discussed to use proposed method.
