Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) display a wide range of luminescent behaviors resulting from the multifaceted nature of their structure. In this critical review we discuss the origins of MOF luminosity, which include the linker, the coordinated metal ions, antenna effects, excimer and exciplex formation, and guest molecules. The literature describing these effects is comprehensively surveyed, including a categorization of each report according to the type of luminescence observed. Finally, we discuss potential applications of luminescent MOFs. This review will be of interest to researchers and synthetic chemists attempting to design luminescent MOFs, and those engaged in the extension of MOFs to applications such as chemical, biological, and radiation detection, medical imaging, and electro-optical devices (141 references).

Fundamentals and Catalytic Applications of CeO2-Based Materials

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), defined as those technologies that utilize the hydroxyl radical (·OH) for oxidation, have received increasing attention in the research and development of wastewater treatment technologies in the last decades. These processes have been applied successfully for the removal or degradation of toxic pollutants or used as pretreatment to convert recalcitrant pollutants into biodegradable compounds that can then be treated by conventional biological methods. The efficacy of AOPs depends on the generation of reactive free radicals, the most important of which is the hydroxyl radical (·OH). Advanced Oxidation Processes for Wastewater Treatment: Formation of Hydroxyl Radical and Application

Novel amphiphilic rare earth precursor complexes with octadecyl cis-butene dicarboxylate to synthesize GdxY2−xO3:Eu3+ nanophosphors

Starting from rare earth nitrates and tri- n -butyl borate, Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ doped REAl 3 (BO 3 ) 4 (RE = Y, Gd) phosphors were synthesized by a modified sol–gel process derived from multi-component hybrid precursors. The microstructure and morphology of the phosphors were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscope; which indicates that these phosphors show good crystalline state and particle size of 100–200 nm order, specially presenting the novel cubic micro-rod patterns. The excitation spectra show a strong spectral band in narrow ultraviolet region of 200–300 nm, while there are still some apparent weak absorption in long-wavelengths region of 300–500 nm. The corresponding emission spectra indicate that these crystalline phosphors exhibit photoluminescence of the characteristic transitions of RE 3+ . The effects of doping concentration on emission intensities were examined, suggesting the quenching concentration of different activated ions in different phosphors. In addition, luminescence intensity presented by the same RE 3+ ion doped concentration among different systems was also compared.

Photoinduced reactions of chloranil with Schiff bases(Ar1CHNAr2) 1–7 gave the corresponding 4-hydroxy-2,3,5,6-tetrachlorophenyl arylbenzenecarboximidates 8–14 respectively in good yields via an electron transfer mechanism.
