Current state of knowledge on Takotsubo syndrome: a Position Statement from the Taskforce on Takotsubo Syndrome of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology
Alexander R. Lyon,Eduardo Bossone,Birke Schneider,Udo Sechtem,Rodolfo Citro,S. Richard Underwood,Mary N. Sheppard,Gemma A. Figtree,Gemma A. Figtree,Guido Parodi,Yoshihiro J. Akashi,Frank Ruschitzka,Gerasimos Filippatos,Alexandre Mebazaa,Elmir Omerovic +14 more
TL;DR: Novel structured approaches to diagnosis, risk stratification, and management are presented, with new algorithms to aid decision‐making by practising clinicians in the management of complex cases with ongoing symptoms after recovery, recurrent episodes, or spontaneous presentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chiari's network: Normal anatomic variant or risk factor for arterial embolic events?
TL;DR: In patients undergoing transesophageal echocardiography, the prevalence of Chiari's network was 2%, which is consistent with autopsy studies, and may favor persistence of a patent foramen ovale and formation of an atrial septal aneurysm and facilitate paradoxic embolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of patent foramen ovale by transesophageal echocardiography and correlation with autopsy findings
Birke Schneider,Tomasz Zienkiewicz,Viola Jansen,Thomas Hofmann,Harald Noltenius,Thomas Meinertz +5 more
TL;DR: Comparison and color Doppler TEE are complementary and represent a highly sensitive and specific method for diagnosis of a PFO and for estimation of the PFO size and sensitivity and specificity were 89% and 100% respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved morphologic characterization of atrial septal aneurysm by transesophageal echocardiography: relation to cerebrovascular events.
TL;DR: It is concluded that atrial septal aneurysm is a cardiac abnormality with thromboembolic potential and long-term anticoagulant therapy is indicated in patients with this lesion and a history of an embolic event.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gender differences in the manifestation of tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy.
Birke Schneider,Anastasios Athanasiadis,Claudia Stöllberger,Wolfgang Pistner,Johannes Schwab,Uta Gottwald,R Schoeller,Birgit Gerecke,Ellen Hoffmann,Christian Wegner,Udo Sechtem +10 more
