Current state of knowledge on Takotsubo syndrome: a Position Statement from the Taskforce on Takotsubo Syndrome of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology
Alexander R. Lyon,Eduardo Bossone,Birke Schneider,Udo Sechtem,Rodolfo Citro,S. Richard Underwood,Mary N. Sheppard,Gemma A. Figtree,Gemma A. Figtree,Guido Parodi,Yoshihiro J. Akashi,Frank Ruschitzka,Gerasimos Filippatos,Alexandre Mebazaa,Elmir Omerovic +14 more
TL;DR: Novel structured approaches to diagnosis, risk stratification, and management are presented, with new algorithms to aid decision‐making by practising clinicians in the management of complex cases with ongoing symptoms after recovery, recurrent episodes, or spontaneous presentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biological markers of oxidative stress: Applications to cardiovascular research and practice.
Edwin Ho,Keyvan Karimi Galougahi,Keyvan Karimi Galougahi,Chia-Chi Liu,Ravi Bhindi,Ravi Bhindi,Gemma A. Figtree,Gemma A. Figtree +7 more
TL;DR: Functional significance of the oxidative modifications enhances their validity as a proposed biological marker of cardiovascular disease, and is the strength of the redox cysteine modifications such as glutathionylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Lancet women and cardiovascular disease Commission: reducing the global burden by 2030.
Birgit Vogel,Mónica Acevedo,Yolande Appelman,C. Noel Bairey Merz,Alaide Chieffo,Gemma A. Figtree,Mayra Guerrero,Vijay Kunadian,Vijay Kunadian,Carolyn S.P. Lam,Angela H.E.M. Maas,Anastasia S. Mihailidou,Anastasia S. Mihailidou,Anastasia S. Mihailidou,Agnieszka Olszanecka,Jeanne E. Poole,Clara Saldarriaga,Jacqueline Saw,Liesl Zühlke,Roxana Mehran +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the first effort of its kind to connect stakeholders, to ignite global awareness of sex-related and gender-related disparities in cardiovascular disease, and to provide a springboard for future research.
Journal ArticleDOI
Canagliflozin and Heart Failure in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Results From the CANVAS Program.
Karin Rådholm,Karin Rådholm,Gemma A. Figtree,Vlado Perkovic,Vlado Perkovic,Scott D. Solomon,Kenneth W. Mahaffey,Dick de Zeeuw,Greg Fulcher,Terrance D. Barrett,Wayne Shaw,Mehul Desai,David R. Matthews,Bruce Neal +13 more
TL;DR: The CANVAS Program (Canagliflozin Cardiovascular Assessment Study) as mentioned in this paper enrolled 10 142 participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus and high cardiovascular risk and reported the effects on heart failure and cardiovascular death overall, in those with and without a baseline history of heart failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reversible Oxidative Modification A Key Mechanism of Na+-K+ Pump Regulation
Gemma A. Figtree,Chia-Chi Liu,Stéphanie Bibert,Elisha J. Hamilton,Alvaro Garcia,Caroline N. White,Karin K.M. Chia,Flemming Cornelius,Kaethi Geering,Helge H. Rasmussen +9 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that kinase-dependent regulation of the Na+-K+ pump occurs via glutathionylation of its β1 subunit at Cys46, which has implications for pathophysiological conditions characterized by neurohormonal dysregulation, myocardial oxidative stress and raised myocyte Na+ levels.
