An oven for continuous cooking of products carried upon a open mesh wire conveyor provides the impingement of a cooking vapor from air discharge structure having ports arrayed above and below the conveyor. The discharge ports extend laterally of the conveyor and communicate with upper and lower plenums each charged by blower fans which draw cooking vapor from low pressure corridors alongside the product conveyor. Gas, electric or thermo fluid heaters are disposed in the corridors. The discharge ports are in slot form disposed about the apex of a Vee shaped riser spaced from the adjacent riser to provide a low pressure flow channel communicating with the corridors giving a rapid velocity change of the cooking vapor from turbulent to a less turbulent flow. The distance for vapor travel between the upper discharge ports and the product carrying conveyor is variable. Temperature and moisture content of the process vapor can be changed to suit cooking conditions.

The present invention is polyurethane dispersion composition that can be mechanically frothed to yield a foam that has good resiliency. Frothed foams of the present invention can be useful in cushioned flooring applications such as attached cushion broadloom, carpet tiles, carpet underlay, or vinyl flooring. Frothed foams of the present invention can also be useful as coatings for various textiles and for diapers.

An impingement device (10) for preparing food product comprises an enclosure (12) having a conveyor (18) received therethrough for conveying food product through the enclosure (12). Positioned within the enclosure (12) and about the conveyor (18) portion therein are ducts (36) for impinging gas against the food product, a plenum (48) connected to the ducts (36) for supplying gas to the ducts (36), and an impeller assembly (44) for recirculating the gas within the enclosure (12). A heating source (40) or cooling source (340) is provided within a chamber (14) on the opposite side of the plenum (48) from the ducts and controls (26) are provided for regulating the temperature of the heat or cooling source. The plenum (48) is spaced inwardly from the walls of the enclosure (12) to provide return flow around the plenum.

Method of cooking food products in an air impingement oven

A method of mixing a fluid includes positioning a flexible bag into the chamber of a support housing, the support housing having a plurality of baffles positioned so that the bag folds around the baffles. A fluid is delivered into a compartment of the flexible bag. A mixing element, such as an impeller, is moved within the compartment of the flexible bag so as to mix the fluid therein.

Object of the invention is a process for drying polychloroprene wherein hot air is blown onto both sides of the moist polychloroprene sheet. Optionally the moist sheet is exposed to infrared rays also. A further object of the invention is the dryer consisting of a warm air section and an air cooling section and optionally an infrared section.

Vapours are condensed in a plate heat exchanger composed of a frame including front and pressure plates between which are arranged suspended plates. Ued for condensing vapours yielded by polymerisation of chloroprene. Advantages are low thermal resistance, favourable flow conditions resulting in low tendency to clogging and low heat losses, high throughput in compact plant, good servicibility and low clearing costs.

Object of the invention is a process for polymerizing chloroprene in aqueous emulsion in a certain apparatus which prevents formation of deposits and so-called "popcorn" polymers.

Process for the production of polychloroprene

Chloroprene is polymerised in aq. emulsion using free radical initiators and opt. polymerisation inhibitors. Polymerisation is effected in a closed vertical cylindrical reactor having a length/dia. ratio of 2-3.1, with round corners having a smooth surface and free of incorporated parts (e.g. stream breakers). The reactor is surrounded by a heating and cooling jacket and is provided with one or more propeller stirrers having 2-5, pref. 3-4, blades on their axis, the stirrers being inclined at an angle of 0-45 degrees, pref. 5-45 degrees to the vertical. The stirrers opt. rotate periodically right and left and one stirrer is located in the lower third of the reactor enclosure. During polymerisation the reactor is completely full and its contents are mixed with a recycled reaction mixt. amounting to 5-20 pref. 10-15 m3/min/m2 vol. of reactor. Process is pref. effected continuously using a series of reactors. Formation of popcorn is avoided as well as sedimentation of the emulsion. The process can thus be effected without interruption for a long time without intermediate cleaning.

The growth of food and ornamental plants on synthetic substrates is increased, and early flowering and fruiting is achieved, by allowing aq. dispersions or solns. of polyurethanes to act on the plants or on their environment. Among plants which can be treated are lettuce, cucumber, radishes, chives, celery, tomatoes, beans, rice, tobacco, cotton, begonias, tulips, dahlias and many shrubs; carnations, ferns, cyclamen and pineapple are esp. treated in this way. Considerable increase in prodn. is achieved.
