The lithiation/delithiation in LiFePO4 is highly anisotropic with lithium-ion diffusion being mainly confined to channels along the b-axis. Controlling the orientation of LiFePO4 crystals therefore plays an important role for efficient mass transport within this material. We report here the preparation of single crystalline LiFePO4 nanosheets with a large percentage of highly oriented {010} facets, which provide the highest pore density for lithium-ion insertion/extraction. The LiFePO4 nanosheets show a high specific capacity at low charge/discharge rates and retain significant capacities at high C-rates, which may benefit the development of lithium batteries with both favorable energy and power density.

Recent Advances and Promise of MXene‐Based Nanostructures for High‐Performance Metal Ion Batteries

Research on next-generation battery technologies (beyond Li-ion batteries, or LIBs) has been accelerating over the past few years. A key challenge for these emerging batteries has been the lack of suitable electrode materials, which severely limits their further developments. MXenes, a new class of 2D transition metal carbides, carbonitrides, and nitrides, are proposed as electrode materials for these emerging batteries due to several desirable attributes. These attributes include large and tunable interlayer spaces, excellent hydrophilicity, extraordinary conductivity, compositional diversity, and abundant surface chemistries, making MXenes promising not only as electrode materials but also as other components in the cells of emerging batteries. Herein, an overview and assessment of the utilization of MXenes in rechargeable batteries beyond LIBs, including alkali-ion (e.g., Na+ , K+ ) storage, multivalent-ion (e.g., Mg2+ , Zn2+ , and Al3+ ) storage, and metal batteries are presented. In particular, the synthetic strategies and properties of MXenes that enable MXenes to play various roles as electrodes, metal anode protective layers, sulfur hosts, separator modification layers, and conductive additives in these emerging batteries are discussed. Moreover, a perspective on promising future research directions on MXenes and MXene-based materials, ranging from material design and processing, fundamental understanding of the reaction mechanisms, to device performance optimization strategies is provided.

MXenes for Rechargeable Batteries Beyond the Lithium-Ion

VO2(B) nanobelts and reduced graphene oxides composites as cathode materials for low-cost rechargeable aqueous zinc ion batteries

Li-ion and K-ion batteries present their unique advantages of high energy density and low cost, respectively. It is a challenge to explore a universal anode with efficient electrochemical performance. Herein, a two-dimensional TiO2/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite was prepared by a facile hydrothermal method. TiO2 nanoparticles are transformed from Ti2C MXene and connect the RGO nanosheets to form a sheet-like structure. Serving as the anode material, the TiO2/RGO presents high capacity, remarkable rate ability and long cycling performance for both Li- and K-ion batteries. The superior electrochemical performance is attributed to the short ion diffusion path due to the small particle size (15–25 nm) and the highway for electron transport provided by RGO. In addition, RGO motivates the capacitive contribution, resulting in enhanced capacity and better rate performance. Meanwhile, the electrochemical kinetics of Li/K-ion storage was investigated by quantitative kinetics analysis. This work demonstrates a possibility to introduce the capacitive capacity to realize rapid ion storage and improve the cycling stability, providing a new strategy to design efficient electrodes for metal-ion batteries.

MXene-derived TiO2/reduced graphene oxide composite with an enhanced capacitive capacity for Li-ion and K-ion batteries

LiVO3 is prepared by the combustion method and applied as anode material for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. The LiVO3 electrode material shows excellent electrochemical performance in the voltage window of 0.2-3V. It displays a high specific capacity and capable capacity retention. Moreover, a full vanadium-based cell is designed based on the LiVO3 anode and Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode. The full cell presents a stable cycling performance and good rate ability. This work suggests a potential vanadium-based anode material and the possibility of the full vanadium-based cell.

Synthesis and electrochemical performance of LiVO3 anode materials for full vanadium-based lithium-ion batteries

Unveiling the chemotactic response and mechanism of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 to nitrobenzene.

It is still a great challenge to prepare intrinsically all-organic thermal conductive membrane with high in-plane and through-plane thermal conductivity. Herein, we designed an all-organic aramid nanofiber thin film with in-plane and through-plane thermal conductivity as high as 15.7 and 0.26 W/mK, respectively, through one step fluorination utilizing F2/N2. We proved that direct fluorination could induce the coupling reaction of benzene rings in neighboring aramid macromolecules to form numerous covalent cross-linking bonds among aramid nanofibers. Benefiting from the cross-linking behavior, interfacial thermal resistance between the nanofibers was suppressed to some extent, thereby leading to enhancement of in-plane and through-plane thermal conductivity by 78.8% and 271.7%, respectively, compared with the unmodified membranes. In addition, the thin films also possess high mechanical strength and electrical insulation, which promote its application potential in flexible electronic fields.
