TL;DR: These findings represent the first clear evidence of sustained evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in white-tailed deer and of deer-to-human transmission and an epidemiologically linked human case.
Journal ArticleDOI
Divergent SARS-CoV-2 variant emerges in white-tailed deer with deer-to-human transmission
Brad S. Pickering,Oliver Lung,Finlay Maguire,Peter Kruczkiewicz,Jonathon D. Kotwa,Tore Buchanan,Marianne Gagnier,Jennifer L. Guthrie,Claire M. Jardine,Alex Marchand-Austin,Ariane Massé,H. TL;DR: In this article , the authors carried out an observational surveillance study in Ontario, Canada during November and December 2021 (n = 300 deer) and identified a highly divergent lineage of SARS-CoV-2 in white-tailed deer (B.1.641).
Journal ArticleDOI
Immune System Effects of Insulin-Like Peptide 5 in a Mouse Model.
Brett Vahkal,Sergey Yegorov,Chukwunonso Onyilagha,Jacqueline Donner,Dean Reddick,Anuraag Shrivastav,Jude E. Uzonna,Sara V. Good +7 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that INSL5-RXFP4 play a novel role in both central and peripheral immune cell signaling and is regulated by immune-associated transcription factors, such as STAT’s and GATA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Japanese medaka as a model for studying the relaxin family genes involved in neuroendocrine regulation: Insights from the expression of fish-specific rln3 and insl5 and rxfp3/4-type receptor paralogues
Hend Alnafea,Brett Vahkal,C. Kellie Zelmer,Sergey Yegorov,Jan Bogerd,Sara V. Good,Sara V. Good +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that O. latipes may be a good model for delineating the ancestral function of the relaxin family genes involved in neuroendocrine regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reviewing the physiological roles of the novel hormone-receptor pair INSL5-RXFP4: a protective energy sensor?
TL;DR: Evidence is presented that INSL5-RXFP4 could regulate immune response by decreasing the production of proinflammatory cytokines and may be involved in the stress response via the HPA axis and the current findings point broadly to a role as a protective energy sensor (PES).
